TLDR : Answer Summary
A user seeking to switch from a Non-O Retirement visa to a Married visa in Thailand inquired about the necessary steps, given conflicting advice from various sites. Commenters noted that it is indeed possible to switch the reason for the visa extension from retirement to marriage as long as the individual is currently on a retirement extension. It's important to visit the local immigration office beforehand to obtain specific requirements for the Married visa extension. Additionally, while the Married visa involves more complexity regarding financial requirements (like the 400,000 THB in a Thai bank account), the process can be managed with proper guidance from immigration officials.

the marriage visa is a lot more of a PITA to deal with. So unless you really need that 400k THB then I suggest staying on retiree.

IF you're on an year extension of stay based on retirement from an immigration office (Read your stamp in your passport) you can indeed switch from an extension based on being over 50 (retirement) to one based on marriage to a thai.

You aren't switching from any visa to any visa, you're only changing the reason for your extension from retirement to marriage.

GO to your immigration office well before your current extension runs out and get the hand out listing the requirements for a year extension based on marriage to a thai.

When you go to apply for the new year extension based on marriage you'll get an under consideration stamp, and then when that stamp runs out you go back to get the year extension inked into your passport

This is a general list of what's required to get an extension based on marriage to a thai it is NOT immigration office specific (which is why I said GO to your office and get their hand out before you will apply for the extension)
