Hi, can anybody tell me the process of getting a retirement visa. I currently have a non o 90 day visa, I already have a Thai bank account. Im aware it has to have 800,000 baht in, at the time of application. I wanted to apply for marriage visa, but getting documents of deeds etc from owner of house, that we rent, seems very difficult, plus translating marriage certificate to thai and getting kor ror 22. All agents suggest retirement visa, as its less complicated. Has anyone had a retirement visa, and changed back to marriage visa in the past.Tia. 😀

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the process of obtaining a retirement visa in Thailand while currently holding a non-O 90-day visa. The user has a Thai bank account and acknowledges the need for 800,000 baht to be in the account at the time of the application. Various comments provide advice on the requirements for the retirement visa, emphasizing that the 800,000 baht must be in the account for at least 60 days before applying. Users suggest checking directly with the immigration office for specific requirements and indicate that the retirement visa might be a simpler option compared to obtaining a marriage visa due to the complexity of the latter's paperwork.

Get the O Retirement visa. Then it gives you one year to understand what is needed to get the marriage extension. It is a process. One that you can do yourself as long as you understand what is required. Go to your closest immigration office for the list of requirements. You don't need an agent. They will tell you what you need, but it is still up to you to gather the information.

I had a marriage visa but I switched to a retirement visa because it's much quicker and easier. You must have had the 800,000 for 2 months, not when you apply.

Been there done that. Exact same situation. Remember 800 k needs to be in account 60 days before you apply.make sure you leave a little cushion

I had 15 baht deductions coming out. I HAD NO IDEA WHY? I ASKED AFTER A YEAR . THEY SAID BECAUSE OF TEXTS THEY SENT. WELL IT WAS A GOOD THING I HAD A CUSHION.

Best is to check with the Immigration office but second is to check with someone like the Pattaya Expat Club as they have a good set of guides and aren't trying to sell services (like agents). Here's a link for you

Anthony Marsella personally I don't see the cost vs service reward with an agent?

I have some friends that use agents and it seems to me that you have to compile all your own documents anyway.

The agent guides people of what is required(check list) and avoids waiting in line.... That's it.

They paid 12.000 bhat for what? Save a 1-2 hours waiting in line?

On that note if a person does not have the funds in country the 25.000 and the agent=problem solved.

Just my two cents, I'm sure if I was busy I would resort to an agent to save being in line, but if I have the time....

An agent is not for me.

The Non-O is the visa. What you need is to get the 12 month Extension of Stay based on retirement. Your immigration office will give you the list of what's needed.
