Answer summary
The conversation discusses the Non-O visa, specifically its use for retirees over 50 looking to stay in Thailand for extended periods. Key points include the need for financial proof (such as pension statements or bank balances) for the application, the necessity of applying for the visa through the Thai consulate online, and potential options for extensions. Several participants shared their experiences and tips regarding different visa types, such as single entry tourist visas, and the processes involved.

Non Imm-O retirement.

Is the poster goes for this option, does she have to obtain two visas each proving THB800,000, or can one piggyback on the other?

Harry Martin You cannot get a dependent Non-O based on a Non-O, if the Embassy/Consulate will issue a dependent Non-O then the primary visa usually has to be a Non-OA

Just apply for the tr60 this will give you the same 60 days plus a 3 day extension

Get a 3 month tourist visa

keep in mind there is no such thing as a tourist visa that gets you stamped IN to thailand for 3 months

a single entry tourist visa is VALID for 3 months from the date it's issued <- meaning you have that long to enter thailand and when you do you'll get stamped in for 60 days like everyone entering on a tourist visa

90 day non o visa

As far as the issue you had before; where immigrations told you that the extension on your second visa exempt entry would be only 7 days not 30, that was implemented for the 60 day Visa exempt program.

There is nothing which states now that the visa exempt program will go from 60 to é0 days that they will continue or discontinue the policy

I have not heard of it ever being enforced when someone entered on a real tourist visa they got from the Thai consulate before they came here.

You've got two choices

1 - get a single entry tourist visa from the thai consulate before you come here, apply for the 30 extension and hope they issue it

OR

2 - get a 90-day Non-O visa based on retirement from the Thai consulate before you come, and get 90 days when you stamp in.

Those would appear to be your options.

We have been doing the 90 day non O visa and occasionally the multi entry 60 day visa (with boarder bounces for the life of the visa) for several years now. Both worked with for us and never any issues on entry.

You certainly COULD both apply for 90 day Non-O visa based on 'retirement' and by showing proof of funds in your country before you come here

That visa would get you stamped in for 90 days when you arrive and there'd be no need for you to get any extension seeing as you're not staying any longer

On the eVisa website you'd want this choice

Thank you for your thoughtful replies and insight. My wife and are similar in profile to the original poster of this thread (except we are American.)

Are there any potential consequences or repercussions if we were to opt for the 90 day O/retirement visa for a 90 day tourist vacation?

We want to eventually get the annual retirement visa (in the future) and do not want to do anything that might jeopardize that option.

If we were to use the 90 day O/retirement visa for a purely tourist visit, might that be considered to be “gaming the system” and potentially affect our process when we eventually apply again for the 90 day O/retirement visa as the first step to getting an annual O/retirement visa?

nope, I know people who get 90-day non-o visas several times a year, because they only come for 90 days or less and then they go back to their country.

They don't have a problem

you are absolutely fine getting the 90 day non O visa for this trip it will not have any impact on your future retirement plans. Its much easier to get it in america and then enjoy the 90 days without having to extend!!!

Over 50, you should apply for a Non-Immigrant Type O visa for retirement (“Non-O retirement”) that gives you a 90-day stay on entry. You will need to submit your pension statements or 3 months of bank statements showing a balance of £10,000, plus confirmation of legal residence in the UK or Ireland.

The METV also has financial requirements. The minimum bank balance required by the London Embassy is unclear on their website, but it may be £5000 according to sources I could find. The fee is £150 though, as opposed to £60 for the non-O. The METV is overkill for someone who just wants a 3-month uninterrupted stay. You’d still need an extension or to do a border bounce after the first 60 days. The METV is most of use if you plan to stay a total of 6 months or more. With clever planning, you could stretch out the stay to as much as 9 months — interrupted by border bounces of course.

For a 3-month stay if you’re over 50, the non-O is the way to go.

too much effort, and may not have 10k.

Just get a single entry tourist visa (60 days), and a one time 30 day extension when here.

Simple, easy, no need for bank statements and all that.

The OP said they were over 50 and had pensions, so no need to show £10,000. I apply for a non-O immigration visa on a regular basis and it’s just as easy as a tourist visa — but it gets you 90 days without having to bother with Thai bureaucracy.

again, I have acknowledged what or means. Once again you can't read. Once again changes nothing.

If you cannot, or will not, do anything other than repeat yourself; you are not aware of the topic.

Have a great day.

“…pension statements *OR* 3 months of bank statements showing a balance of £10,000. One or the other. If you have documented pensions, you do not need to show the financials.

Once again, I’ve applied for this visa multiple times now and it’s a breeze.

yep. You can do one hard way or the other, harder way.

METV far easier.

In and out 60 days each time, valid for 6 months.

if over 50 years old, you could get a 90-days Non-Imm-O Retirement Visa. However for this you need to fulfill the requested financial requirement

this is a good idea . But can one repeat that visa the following years . Ie not complete the bank part etc for the 1 year extension?

@Trevor ********
Yes. I repeat this twice every year. Never taken the extension or stayed longer than 90 days per trip. No problem at all. It was even better in the days when it was a multi-entry visa valid for one year. Sadly, that bit is no more.

Thanks Graham. Conflicting info received from a legal firm so we just weren't sure. We will get Non - O

You apply for a single entry tourist visa through the Thai Consulate in your country online via the evisa website.

You upload the information pay online and they will email you the confirmation with PDF file that you print out because that is your Visa

Present that along with you or passport to the officer when you stamp in and you'll get 60 days.

You can go to the immigration office where you stay for one 30 day extension for 1900 baht

No sense going to the consulate in person because now that it's all online they don't talk to people about visas there.

That's what we thought but we were worried about being declined for an extension after our experience last year. Having seen reviews for the embassy in london it appears that they are helpful if you go in person to ask for help.

you are a genuine tourist coming from and returning to your home country. You are not the target of immigration who are looking for abusers.

Tod *********
Tod *********
I think you will find that those reviews were BEFORE all the embassies in the world went to the online eVisa website

AND

Keep in mind the embassy just sells visas, they have abso-tively, posi-lutely zero to do with stamping in to thailand OR getting extensions once you're inside. That's 100% handled by thai immigrations which has nothing to do with embassies..

You should have no issue getting a 30 day extension on a 60 day tourist visa at the immigration office where you stay for 1900baht once you're here

@Tod ********
The reviews I looked at were within the last few weeks - i was surprised as I thought that you couldn't just walk in but seems you can. I know we will still have to do it online - just a case if which one!!
