What happens to my Bangkok Bank account if my mobile app is suspended and I'm living overseas?

ORIGINAL POSTER
I opened a BB account about 2 years ago with the help of an agent. My mobile app was suspended about 2 months ago because the Sim which I purchased at the airport doesn't seem to be registered in my name.

My question is will the bank just block you from using mobile banking app or do they actually just close your account after 30 days? The message on the app just said it was blocked but I don't remember seeing anything about the account being closed if I didn't correct the problem. The challenge is I'm living overseas and won't be back to Thailand for at least another 18 months.

Any guidance would be appreciate - thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is facing issues with their Bangkok Bank mobile app being suspended due to a mismatch between the registered name of their SIM card and their bank account. They inquired whether the bank would close their account after 30 days or simply block their mobile banking access. Responses from the community suggest that the app might only be suspended, allowing a chance to correct the issue by aligning the SIM card registration with the bank account. It's noted that until the user returns to Thailand and resolves the SIM card issue, their banking access remains affected, and they may not need to worry about account closure if the problem can be rectified.

Apples and oranges! There's more than one reason for an account to be frozen. The OP's problem is the first reason a couple of months ago, his sim-card is not registered in his name. It's easy to fix via the sim-card provider. Just go there and they will update the name and give him a receipt to show his branch. If he's not in Thailand, his mobile banking will be locked until he's back.

Then get a bankaccount, when you get back and actually need it.

That is exactly why all the Thai banks are scrutinizing their customer base at the moment.

If you don’t live in Thailand you don’t need a bankaccount in Thailand.

And the Authorities has ordered banks to be more vigilant about their customers, to bring down fraud and money laundering.

Accounts opened by agents, has a higher risk of being controlled since they were opened by 3. part, and involve corruption.

Same issue with all banks, since it is the Authorities that ordered it.

I check my account every couple of days. This notice just popped up. They are giving you a chance to align sim name to mobile account.

If it said on the app that mobile banking is suspended due to mismatch of account name and phone, then its only the app that doesn‘t work until you settle it as requested.

You can test it by asking a friend in TH to transfer you money to your account.

Sadly There has been a lot going on with Bangkok Bank lately

If you are in Thailand you will need to go to a BBK bank and update all your information.

This isn't because of the sim card.

, not totally correct: if SIM details and account details are not similar, can be a reason why they freeze the account

They freeze mobile banking, not your bank account.

I believe his bank account has been completely frozen, not just mobile banking. I have received the same message and cannot use the bank account at all.

have you tried withdrawing from your ATM card. This will confirm only app locked and not whole Account. When my Kasicorn was suspended I could still ude ATM card.
