What are the consequences if I can't link my bank account to my phone number by the deadline in Thailand?

Hi. As you may know, the Thai government has introduced a regulation requiring that every bank account must be linked to a phone number registered under the account holder’s name. From what I’ve read, the deadline is today. Unfortunately, I won’t make it in time because it can’t be done online and you have to go to a branch. Does anyone know what the consequences will be?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The Thai government has implemented a new regulation requiring all bank accounts to be linked to a phone number registered under the account holder's name, with a deadline that is approaching. If the deadline is missed, users may face temporary suspension of mobile banking services, although bank cards should still be usable for transactions. Users whose SIM cards are registered under a different name can update their details at the telecommunication provider and the bank. However, there is some uncertainty about whether accounts will be closed immediately if not updated by the deadline or if they will be reactivated once the details are corrected.

I think this only applies if you have online banking .I was in Bangkok bank to get a new passbook recently and the clerk never asked about my phone number .But I don't use online banking .

Prasert clarified Sunday that customers whose mobile banking username doesn't match their SIM card owner details, but who haven't received a notification, can continue using their accounts as normal for now.

what notification because main notification received everyone. It was on banner when you open app.

AMLO, via the Thai Bankers' Association and the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), will coordinate the data transfer and verification process, with banks expected to begin suspending non-compliant accounts in June.

I purchased my sim at the Bangkok airport from a AIS booth. At that time, they took my passport to scan and made a photocopy, and gave me the sim. Is this sim considered to be under my name? Or do I need to do something else to make it mine? There's no option to check under whose name the sim has been registered on the AIS app.

I don't know if it's true or not but I read somewhere that numbers that have been in place prior to 2022 are not affected. I certainly haven't heard anything from my bank that I'm affected

If the sim is registered under the same name as the bank acct owner u don't have to do anything....if the sim have a different name just go to the telco u are using and updated to your name if under your girlfriends name bring her along after the verification at the relco proceed to the bank and get updated.....if you can't do it time most probably your mobile banking get suspended but u still can use your card or walkin to the bank with bank book to do transaction.....and u can reuse the mobile app once everything have been updated at the bank

Do you know if it will be an issue if I do it next week once my passport is back? Like will my account be closed today and will I have to open a new account or only get suspended today?

You will be able to re-activate it when you get your passport back- I suspect the App wont shut u down tmr. You can still use your card to pay/withdraw.
