Hi guys, I’m bringing my Thai gf of 7 years to Australia and will marry her here. She hasn’t been married before so no need for divorce papers etc, but what will she need in order to marry in Australia? I’m guessing just passport and perhaps birth certificate? Could anyone please confirm?

My question isn’t regarding a visa, that’s already underway!
Answer summary
In order for your Thai girlfriend to marry you in Australia, she will typically need the following documents: a valid passport, a birth certificate (with an official English translation), and possibly a certificate of no impediment proving she is not currently married (also translated). Additional documentation may include any name change certificates if applicable. It's advisable to contact the Australian embassy or a registered marriage celebrant for the most current requirements and to ensure all necessary paperwork is in order.

You will need a letter from municipality to prove she is single and able to be married. If she has any children, regardless if that are coming or not you will need police checks

My wife and I looked into it. Much better to marry in Thailand. The exorbitant ransom the Australian government wants in the price of visa fees is incredible. Stay in thailand and put those thousands to work in the form of helping establish yourselves there.

But that's just my opinion

I went to a marriage celebrant in Australia and it was pretty simple

She needed a passport and birth certificate and other Id documents but it was quite easy

I married in Thailand. It's recognised in the UK. Technically don't even need a marriage approval certificate. In the day there was a chap from Australia doing the same thing with his fiance from Laos. So now my wife has a new friend for life. Life is too miserable in the UK with ILR being extended to effectively 20 years and £20k+.With your wifebeing not married before, I suppose you need to broach the question of Sin Sod. I avoided as my wife was a divorcee. Yes, and I know the Ex. He hasn't tried to stab me.

Mary in Thailand. Translate all documents and legitimate your marriage in Australia. When legitimate your marriage she can get very easy visa for Australia. Check with translator in Australia haw to legitimate your documents and marriage. Need few stamps from ministry off Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Thailand and Thai embassy in Australia.

I don’t want to marry my girlfriend in Australia, but I’d be happy to hear about how difficult it is to bring her over just for a holiday. She hasn’t been to Australia yet, and I wouldn’t mind showing her the place, before I retire completely and don’t want to return there.

Just FYI you don't have to get married, you just need to prove you're in a relationship. 7 years together is more than enough, save yourself the hassle unless of course you actually want to get married, in australia married or not she can take half your sh*t anyway.

She needs a certificate of no impediment from Thailand officially translated to English. This proves she is not currently married - so she can marry you. If any name changes in past - name change certificates officially translated too

If you plan to live in Thailand at any point in the future then marry in Thailand. Thailand is not part of the apostle convention and it’s easier in Australia to recognise a Thai marriage than it is for Thailand to recognise an Australian marriage

If Australia is anything like the UK, which I imagine it is, at least in a similar legal system then getting married is the easy part. Getting a fiancé visa was not. I hope the aussie track is different.

I am going through the same process. It is not easy you have to go through a lot hoops. She has to Prove that she is not a flight risk and have a job and has money in the Bank. I am going through an agent and he is an Aussie living here in Thailand and a lot of Paperwork and it doesn't matter how much you have in Australia. And it could take up to 18 months to 2 years for it all to be processed. Also they the Embassy might only give her a single entry or they might give her Muli entry it is up to the Embassy to decide unfortunately. I own everything in Australia do not owe anyone anything still it is a long process. And you have to have a Marriage Date with an Australian Celebrant and lodge that with the application as well and photos you name it. As you know it has changed a lot from a few years ago. Good luck. We lodged all our Documents last week and waiting on a decision now. But that doesn't mean My Parther will be able to come back with me. Good luck

Tony McElholum Mate what you talking about, if she is immigrating to thailand through you then she doens't need a job, how is she going to be a flight risk if she is immigrating there? I think you talking about a visitor visa, a partner visa she doesn't need any money, doesn't even need to speak english. Only thing you need is to prove the relationship is real and that you have money to support her, you don't even need to be married.
Tony ***********
Tony ***********
Chris Simmons My Partner is From Burirum and we had twice tried for a Visitor before and have been refused twice. So Now we have lodged a Prospective Marriage visa and we also lodged a vistor visa as well. And we have done all required and have booked a wedding in Australia for 2027. She is not Migrating to Thailand she Migrating to Australia. And I not sure what mean when she doesn't get wage in Thailand and doesn't have a lot in the Bank even though she has a Mother and she has 2 Grown up Daughter's wi5h family and run a small coffee truck which they the Embassy do not recognise as a legitimate Business. Do not worry we have tried all angles and this is the best way for us everything is lodged so just waiting on a Decision now.

Not sure if you have done the process as I say both refusals reasons were Flight Risk and that is just a generic form that is sent on refusals.

A certified English translation of her birth certificate and the original document.

If she has changed her name from the name on her birth certificate (a surprisingly common thing in Thailand)she will need , certified , translated copies of the change of name documents and the originals.

This was the case when my wife and I married 16 years ago . It may have changed since then.
