What documents are required for a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) application at the embassy in Malaysia, and do they accept proof of passive income without a payslip?

This is the list from the embassy in KL regarding documents required for DTV.

I’d like to use the soft power option but noticed them asking for a payslip (which I don’t have, only passive income and bank account with required balance)

Is that the same at other embassies?

(note: currently in Thailand, planning on going to Malaysia to apply)

Any advice?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The inquiry discusses the documentation needed for a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) application based on information from the embassy in Kuala Lumpur. The user mentions having passive income and a sufficient bank balance but lacks a payslip, which raises concerns about requirements that might be consistent across other embassies. Comments suggest alternatives, such as applying in Hanoi where fewer documents are required, and discuss the legitimacy of applying from Malaysia instead of the home country.

Just a non sense...forbidden to apply from Thaïland but they want more than 6months lease.. 🤣 you rent a flat for 1 year and 15days after they refuse your visa 😂. Many thanks for your warning 👌👍👍

Many embassies don't have that rent requirement so you can get a DTV easier elsewhere

Quick question—this might be a dumb one, but why would they let you apply from KL? Wouldn’t the embassy require you to apply from your home country? And if you travel to KL, wouldn’t you need to show the bank statement from your account in your home country?

for this type of visa you don’t need to apply from your home country.

I‘ve used the embassy in KL and Penang in previous years for tourist visas

And it’s a relevant question ☺️

It's not a dumb question but definitely you misunderstood the way this works.

You do not have to apply from your home country, unless maybe you have a North Korean passport or something 😅

I would say apply in Ha Noi is better. My bf got approved 2days ago. Not that much required. If you think to come here 27-31 I think they close for holiday

Passive income works. Proof of income usually can be pay slip, statements, outlined bank transactions coming into your account. You should write a brief letter explaining the source of your income and how you are presenting the proof.

Sounds good. I think that they they will slowly require this everywhere so I recommend you go to the embassy mentioned by the other posters as soon as you can. The Thai government is trying to avoid people living with no income or working illlegally in the territory hence the creation of the DTV visa and the request for proof of income in more and more embassy.

I think Cambodia, Vietnam, Jakarta, Laos Yangon do not require payslips for softpower applicants. Taipei does so avoid there.

I’ve checked their website,

is it safe to say they don’t ask for payslips there?

I got my DTV soft power in Hanoi. No payslip. 6 months of bank statements was only financial document required.

Peggy Middelveld Malaysia is infamous for being the strictest embassy for DTV approval. Other SEA embassies much more easier to apply from.
