Can I apply for a DTV visa from Myanmar as a freelancer and how should I present my finances?

I am planning to apply the DTV visa as a freelancer in February. I'm from Myanmar, and currently, currently I'm holding an ED Visa. Either in Hanoi or Myanmar, I intend to apply for the DTV visa. Could I ask you some questions?

1. As my clients are based in Myanmar, my fees are in MMK. I use a reliable unofficial money exchanger (known as Hundi in Myanmar) to convert MMK to THB. Will my 500,000 Thai Baht be recognised as formal evidence of funds?

2. My clients are small business owners and film production companies. They don’t use letterheads for payslips; they simply transfer payments through mobile banking. Is it enough by providing screenshots of the bank transfers and bank statements from Myanmar? Or if not, how can prepare official payslips in this case?

3. In your opinion, which country is the best option for freelancers to apply for the DTV visa?

All of your advice would be helpful a lot for this process.

Thank You

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user from Myanmar plans to apply for a DTV visa as a freelancer and has questions regarding proof of funds and payment documentation, given his source of income and clients. Key concerns include whether funds converted through an unofficial exchanger will be accepted as valid proof, the sufficiency of mobile banking screenshots as evidence of income without official payslips, and the best country options for applying for the DTV visa. Comments suggest that official documentation is important for fund validation and share tips on what can work based on personal experiences.

I don't get official payslips from one of my contracts. I just highlighted the payments on my bank statement. Submitted a letter from the company confirming they had paid me on those dates. That was ok for approval in Taipei.

Thank you for your suggestion to apply in Myanmar or Cambodia. May I ask if you are a DTV visa holder as well? It would be great to hear about your experience, especially since you’re also from Myanmar.

It’s unlikely. You need an official bank account with the funds, don’t not have an account in Thailand as that would be ok, and if they ask for proof of contracts and invoicing you will not be able to provide so they will likely reject.

Thank you for your kind suggestion. I actually have bank accounts in both Myanmar and Thailand. Due to the country's economy and high inflation, I immediately exchange MMK to THB through a reliable informal money transfer system. As a result, there is insufficient money in my Myanmar bank account; however, I do have 500,000 THB in my Thai bank account.

According to your suggestion, I would ask my clients for official invoices and contracts for my past and current work to improve my chances of approval.

Anonymous participant so your Thai account is NO problem, that will work as long as the money meets the time requirement for being in there.

As for the clients, it’s best to get something official on headed paper preferably from verifiable email addresses from the company name as this can all show you have the contracts. You can merge all seperate docs into a single PDF to include as much as possible in this, but definitely contracts from as many people you work for as possible. Online examples of work as well is my advice. It’s best to send too much than not enough, and also add covering letter explaining your set up, and how you invoice etc.

I hope you succeed, but there isn’t much more you can do.
