What Documents Are Needed for Item 5 When Applying for a Non-O Visa Based on Retirement in Savannakhet?

I have a question about the documentation required at Savannakhet for a non-O visa based on retirement. I am from the US.

I have posted this question on other sites but no one seems to be able to provide a clear answer.

This question is addressed to anyone who has recently gone to Savannakhet to get a non-O visa based on retirement. Information on non-O visas based on marriage or some other reason will not help as they have different requirements than the one I am looking for.

The requirements set out on the consulate web page are:

Required documents

1. Visa application form [Download] which is completely filled out and signed by the applicant

1. Original passport or travel document (must not expire within 180 days and contain at least two complete empty visa pages) and A copy of passport (The page(s) shows the applicant’s photo, name, date, and place of birth and the expiration date of passport)

1. Two (2) photos of the applicant (3.5 x 4.5 cm, taken within 6 months)

1. Bank statement (minimum of THB 800,000) or Certification of Income (minimum of THB 65,000 monthly)

1. Official letter from the concerned Embassy/Consulate of applicant's nationality

1. Visa Fee: 2,000 Baht (Single Entry)

All the requirements are clear except for No. 5. I have no idea what is meant and no one on any of the other sites I have checked seems to know what is meant either. A Thai speaker has provided a translation of item 5 from the Thai version which states: "5. Certificate of retirement from the embassy of that person with that nationality" and which is a bit different than the English version but it is still unclear. Is it a sworn statement stating that I am retired? Is it about pension income?

I have emailed the Thai consulate in Savannakhet asking about it but have received no response.

Everything else seems pretty straightforward, however, I would really appreciate any information about what form/letter you used for number 5 - and that was accepted in Savannakhet - from folks that have actually done a non-O (retirement) visa recently.

Thanks

David

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks clarification on the documentation required specifically for item 5 of the non-O visa application based on retirement at the Savannakhet consulate. The user has gathered some general requirements but finds item 5 ambiguous, as it involves obtaining a certificate or official letter related to retirement from their embassy. They are seeking insights from expatriates who have recently navigated this process.

Thanks all for the comments, most of which contain some useful information for later perhaps but none of them has answered my basic question: what is Savannakhet looking for with respect to item 5? Most likely the answer will only come from someone who has actually applied for a non-O visa based on retirement there.

David Kuenley O and we wish you good luck.

Though several have suggested you not go to Savannakhet...please let us know what happens when you do and make application at Savannakhet.

I think you are WAY better off going to your immigration office and seeing if you can get the 90 day Non-O visa issued INSIDE the country from them.

Not all offices can do it BUT you don't need a police background check, a medical certificate or anything like that. You will need at least 15 to 21 days left on your current 30 day visa exempt entry, 60 day tourist visa entry OR a 30 day extension from one of those to do it.

Tod Daniels Thanks for the input. I have already checked with my local immigration office here in Chiang Mai but it is as crazy as every. If I were in Bangkok going to CW, it would not be much of a problem butin this case, heading over to Savannakhet is easier plus it is a good excuse for a long motorcycle ride. :)

i only seen reports of peope being denied this visa at Savannakhet if this was their first visa based on being over 50 years of age. Better options are Vientiane or Penang, but you also need there the medical certificate and the Police record check.

@Rob***
, I'm curious to know where you have seen that. I have been looking for information about visas from Savannakhet for the past week or so and have seen no mention of people being denied there if they are seeking their first visa based on being over 50.

There is only one office and they have a website will all the information

Just a point of note for anyone if requiring a police check. If you need one then the office off Sukhumvit will give you one. Apply in person preferably assisted by a thai national to translate for you...supply 2 passport photos. 5000 baht if required quickly(posted within 3 days or 300 baht if you are prepared to wait up to 3 months). I have required these periodically when requiring police checks for visa for working abroad. If you are a british national then the alternative way to get one is to apply online to DISCLOSURE SCOTLAND ( but do not enter your foreign address...you can use a forwarding address in the UK to get someone to scan said disclosure to you...usually posted within 24 hours. Both are valid worldwide...but only valid for 1 year from application date

You are lucky and very clever to have had a Thai national translate it for you, as number 5 just means that if you already receive a pension, you should supply document evidence certified by your embassy. Otherwise if you go the 800,000 deposit method and are over 50 years old, these documents are not needed

Hi
@Gre***
and thanks for the response. I will be doing the 800k baht method however, I don't see anything in the posted requirements that indicated there is no need for item 5 if you are doing that. Neither the English version of the posted requirements or the Thai version has an or between item 4 and item 5. Without that, I have to assume that all 6 items are required for the non-O visa based on retirement.
