1st time applying for a Non-Immigrant 'O' visa based on retirement in Hua Hin. Tod Daniels as requested, brief on my experience. We arrived (1 Brit 1 Oz) on 30 day visa exemption in BKK. With our dog (another syory if anyone is ineterested). It did take us 3 attempts at Hua hin immigration (Soi 35) to successfully submit our Non - O application. Key points from my experience here as a 1st time Non'O' applicant; 1. The required Bank information was main surprise. They not only needed Bank Guarantee letter, copies of passbook, they also needed bank printouts of overseas transactions totalling over the 800,000 Baht. (Available from your Thai bank) 2. They required copies of our house ownership blue book pages, even though they were blank. 3. Google Map print out was ok. 4. Completed application form TM 87 was Ok. 5. 2 photo's were needed, which can be taken quickly outside the immi office. 6. Copies of all usual documents, including Passport, Entry 30 day exemption stamp, both sides of departure card. 6. Finally we prepared 2 full packs of all those needed Docs, one original & one copy set. We expect to collect our passports in two weeks, which is still a week before our original 30 day expires. When we should be the holder of 90 day Non-O visas based on retirement. One more bank item, we had to make a small transaction & update our passbook on the day of application, as our last transactions were a few weeks ago.

We brought our dog from China on our flight as excess baggage & he cleared Quarantine & Customs within half an hour. 1500 Bhat total in the airport. Pre-work in China was the biggest effort.
You can apply for a year-long multi-entry Non-Immigrant Type O-A visa or the 10 year Non-Immigrant Type O-X visa from the thai consulates in your country before you come here.
Yep, I'm sorry I didn't mention that IF you're using the banked money method for a Non-O visa you need to prove the 800K bahat came from overseas, need a letter from the bank and update your bank book on the day you apply.
Once you get your Non-O visas you'll get a new stamp for 90 more days too. When you have 30 day or less left on that you can go apply for the yearly extension, AND you'll need a new bank letter and to update your bank book on the day you apply for that as well. The good news is yearly extensions based on being over 50 (retirement) are issued on the spot.
