Can anyone relate their experience getting a retirement visa in Savannakhet?

I have heard it's "easy" to get a retirement visa in Savannakhet but not sure what this means. I will have 800,000 THB in my Thai bank account. I am wondering if I will need a medical certificate and a letter stating I have no criminal record. The Savannakhet Thai Consulate web page does not mention needing these documents: [members only]/

BTW I'm American, 50 years old. Any information would be appreciated. Just trying to corroborate info. Thanks for any help.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The process for obtaining a retirement visa (specifically the 90-day Non-Immigrant Type O visa) in Savannakhet requires careful consideration of several factors. Applicants must demonstrate financial stability, with proof of either 800,000 THB in a Thai bank account (which needs to be seasoned for 60 days for an extension) or a verifiable monthly income of 65,000 THB from abroad. While some users suggested a medical certificate and police background check are common requirements, others indicated these might not be explicitly mandated based on the Thai Consulate's website. The conversation highlights a mix of experiences from community members, detailing the importance of proper documentation and the pitfalls of not adhering to financial requirements.

Okay, lets make it perfectly clear that you're NOT going to get anything more than a 90 day single entry Non-Immigrant Type O visa based on being over 50 from ANY consulate in S/E Asia. Once you get that you'll get stamped in for 90 days and then you apply for a yearly extension of stay at your immigration office by meeting the financial requirements.

AFAIK: Vientiane, Savannakhet & Penang all require a police back ground check AND a medical certificate along with proof of funds (either 800K baht banked in an account here in thailand or the equivalent of that amount in a bank account in your country OR a letter from your consulate stating you get 65K baht a month in income from abroad).

Might be easier with less documentary burden to get a tourist visa and then get an extension based on age over 50 in country. No proof of funds required, no police report.

I guess I missed his exact location preference. ;)

- Yes we are all aware of that - But this gentleman focused on Savannakhet - so I informed him of other Consulates. It is not easy to get every option into one or even two comments. It depends on where one might live - Savanakhet it a good option from Nakon Phanom, Sakon Nakhon, Ubon Rachathani, Mukdahan, etc.

He can also get this Visa at Immigration Office if he is on a Tourist Visa or Visa Exempt Entry.

- The One Year Year Extension of Stay - (age 50 or over) must me initiated while on a Non Immigrant Visa.

You can get the Single Entry Non Imm O Visa (age 50) at Savannakhet, Vientiane, Penang and about 3-4 regional consulates...

First time application the 800,000 Baht in a Thai Bank must be 'seasoned' 60 days).

Alternatively - You can use the monthy income route by proving you have the equivalent of 65,000 Baht in income from America each month (from any source there)... Just make an online appointment - then go to the American Embassy Counselor Services in Bkk - swear via Affidavit that you have income equivalent to or greater than 65,000 Baht from America each month.. No financial proof required.

very true, it was only what I had to do.

- yes - talking with Robert that has been clarified.. But having been at the 'Oz Visa for several years - the no seasoning except for 30 days to apply for the 90 day Non O... had not always been that way.. And in the Thai way varied from one Imm. Office to another. In the same way as at one time a person could not get a Non O 90 day over 50 in many Imm. Offices

the extension of stay requires the money to be in the bank for 60 days, the original is only 30 days for the 90 day based on being over 50.

2nd extension the money needs to be seasoned for 90 days,
Robert *******
Correct, it must be on the bank, coming in from abroad to get the Visa, It most be seasoned for 2 months prior the first application for the Extension of Stay. Some people like expensive lessons in stead of free advice.

An odd one - a friend in Krabi recently presented bank records for 800,000.. got the Non O, but didn't didn't listen to me, he spent much of the money on a house.. Then went back for the One Year Extension - Denied.... not enough money in the account
Joe ***********
The Income Affidavit is presented both times
Joe ***********
Okay
Robert *******
It does not have to be seasoned when you apply for the visa.
Joe ***********
Just don't let them keep the originals the first time
Joe ***********
No - when getting a proof of income for a 90 day O Visa (for over age 50) or for an Extension of Stay (one year for that Visa... the financial proof is obtained the same way - but done only once - get visa - use the same documents for the Extension of Stay.. They do ask Both times to prove it - even if done in a short time span

It looks like you're mixing the requirements for a Visa at an Embassy with the requirements of the Extension of Stay if you already have the visa.
Robert *******
What kind of retirement visa, there are 3 visa's and an Extension of Stay all called retirement visa, are you willing to apply for. What is your current Visa?
Robert *******
@Andy ******
You can apply at Immigration if you have 15 days left in Bangkok or 21 days in Chang Mai and Pattaya on your current Admitted to Stay. Your need to meet the financial requirements. Or 800.000 Thb on a Thai bank in your name and the money must come from abroad, not need to be seasoned or 65.000 Thb monthly income certified by your Embassy.

Ok yes, thanks, that's the one I need, the 90 day non immigrant O.

@Robert ******
The only visa available at Savannakhet based on being over 50 years old is the 90 day Non Imm O visa.
