I am going to apply for a non-o visa in Nakon Phanom and have been told I need to go to Mukdahan to apply for first time, not really sure why. I have the 800 k in the bank already 1 month. Not sure what documents are needed and would appreciate any information or advice. Example would be if I need a bank letter and account statement when first applying.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user intends to apply for a Non-O visa due to retirement and is seeking information on the application process from Nakon Phanom, where they have been advised to travel to Mukdahan or Savannakhet. Comments clarify that Nakhon Phanom immigration does not issue this visa, necessitating the trip to a nearby consulate in Savannakhet, Laos. Key requirements include demonstrating 800,000 baht in a Thai bank account and having an updated bank book, although a letter from the embassy is no longer required. The conversation provides guidance on the necessary documentation and steps for a successful application.

asked;

I am living in Nakon Phanom and been told I need to go to savannakhet to get a new Non-O visa based on retirement.

I have the 800k in the bank and everything else I need except the letter from the America's consulate or embassy,

I have two questions,

Does anyone know if I need to leave Thailand to get this visa

and

if I do need to leave does savannakhet require this letter from the embassy?

This letter only seems to be required for the non-o based on retirement not other non- visas.

There is no embassy letter you can get, they do not issue it any more at all ๐Ÿ˜•

you show your bank book with the 800K baht balance in it when you apply for the 90 day non-O visa, you do NOT need the bank letter, you need the bank book updated the day before you cross into Lao

Yep, if you live in Nakhon Phanom you cannot get an in country Non-O visa issued from that immigration office <- meaning you DO need to leave to get it at a nearby thai consulate

There is no "letter from the embassy" anymore. They stopped issuing it back at the end of 2018. It used to be required when you were showing proof of funds in YOUR country.

I think because you've already got the 800K baht banked here in a thai bank account in your name only, you will have no issue at all applying for the 90 day single entry Non-O visa based on being over 50 (retirement) at the thai consulate in Savannakhet. Update your bank book the day before you cross the border so you can show a recent balance and you should be fine

Okay, I will combine your other topic to this one so that it's all on one thread

Unless I'm mistaken Nakhon Phanom is one of those offices that don't issue in country Non-O visas (not for marriage or retirement) ๐Ÿ™

So you do indeed need to go to a thai consulate in another country and apply

You need to show 800K baht in a thai bank account in your name only to apply for the 90 day Non-O visa at the thai consulate in Savannakhet Lao (which is across the river from the thai province Mukdahan ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

These are the requirements from the thai consulate in Savannakhet, (update your thai bank book the day before you cross into Lao so it has a fairly current balance)

There is no US embassy letter you can get here that says anything about your pension, your income, nothing at all. They won't even let you fill out a blank affidavit saying anything like that
