and you cannot "renew my O/A visa". You most probably got an "extension of stay"

@Gregor *********
correct...he extended it.

And with that I close commenting.

Thanks all for your replies.
Owen *******
Am I incorrect to ask if this is for an 12 month extension of stay, not a O-A visa renewal. Also did you also need a completed TM7 form.
Gregor **********
you can only chenge to Non-O if you leave Thailand and make your existing Non-O/A invalid
Henrik ****
@Gregor *********
, and then enter Thailand on visa exemption and go Immigration asking for Non-O based on retirement showing the 800k THB?
Gregor **********
@Henrik ***
enter with a tourist visa or exempt entry and ask for a "conversion" to a Non-O
James ********
@Owen ******
he has an O-A based retirement... Health insurance is required.

It is not required for Non O based retirement extensions.

Ask your immigration office for their list of requirements to get your one year extension.
Henrik ****
@James *******
, what do you mean by "Non O based retirement extensions"? Extension based on marriage?
James ********
@Henrik ***
O-A visas are obtained in one's home country only.

The O could have been issued in home country or inside Thailand. And it is a one year extension of stay when extending at local immigration.
Henrik ****
@James *******
, sorry but what you say is a bit confusing. As far as I know, you can only get O and O-A at an embassy outside Thailand. O-A is for retirement. O is for marriage and others. Both might be extended inside Thailand. The requirements for extension are different. I have never heard of someone getting a Non-O based on retirement. Have you heard of that?

@Henrik ***
Whilst O is issued for many other purpose, but to the best of my knowledge, both O or OA visas can be issued for Retirement. And if you are unlucky and have OA then you have are forced to take Health Insurance
Henrik ****
@Casa *******
, ok, how to qualify for a Non-O based on retirement?
James ********
@Henrik ***
a Non O can be obtained for retirement ...outside and inside Thailand.

No I did not complete any forms. I just gave them above documents. Immigration Officer printed two completed forms with my details on it, and I just signed it..

I understand that but the point that I am making is people can get confused when they read this is a visa renewal. Visa's are not renewed, you apply for a new visa. This sounds like an application for extension of stay after the the date you are permitted to stay on the O-A visa expires.
James ********
@Owen ******
you are correct. He obtained a one year Extension of Stay...but as his original visa obtained in his home country was an O-A...he still needs to provide proof of Thai issued health insurance to obtain the extension.

May I ask what health insurance company you used , how long did it take to issue the Certificate and how much the policy cost ? .... thanks

I guess we are not allowed to mention company name but paid THB 6,000 and got e-certificate by email within 1 hour after payment was made.
James ********
Thank you for sharing.

Which Immigration office do you use?

Did you show proof of the required O-A health insurance issued by an approved Thai Insurance company?
