Hi everybody, first question here but thanks for all useful information I got from reading post in the past.

I helped my mother to get a Visa OA 1 year, retired. She got it based on income from her retirement. She also show her saving account with more than the required 800000 Thb from immigration but on her local Belgian Bank account in euros.

My question is : will they check it again or as I believe stamp her one year at airport and ask for the required 800000 Thb on a Thai bank account the day she will extend her visa ?

Also to inform people; at the Embassy ( in Belgium) , they got pretty serious about her health cover from a Thai insurance. ( she’s 72 ) And they wanted official certificate of her monthly retirement/pension.

Thanks for info 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the process of renewing a Visa OA for a retiree in Thailand, focusing on financial requirements such as needing to show either 800,000 THB in a Thai bank account or an affidavit of income from abroad. It mentions the importance of meeting the updated health insurance requirements effective October 1, 2022, which now mandates a general health coverage of 3 million baht.

People on an OA visa can get two years of stay out of a visa valid for a year by exiting/re-entering before the VISA itself expires (and showing they have another year of health insurance).

So if the visa itself is still valid (NOT the tiny red year entry stamp she got when she entered) she could exit/re-enter and get another year (or as long as her health insurance is good for)

Now if you want to go the year extension route inside the country at the immigration office; I would also contact your Belgian Embassy here to see if they offer the affidavit of income from abroad notary letter <- which you can use in lieu of banking the 800K baht in a thai account in her name only for 2 months before she applies for an extension.

Either way you go with it she will need to show she has the 3 million baht general health coverage now because the requirements changed on Oct 1st 2022 from the 40k/400k out/in-patient coverage to 3 million baht general coverage.

thanks for theses useful informations. I didn’t realized she could get a second year if she renew her health cover. We’ll see there and ask the local immigration at Nakhon Si Thammarat anyway , thanks a lot 🙂

yep i understood it right, she get the choice to bounce for another year and prevent extension paperwork or do the extension. it's nice to have the choice, thanks again.

there is no reason to ask NST immigrations if you're going to bounce her out and back. The imimgration office has NOTHING to do with what happens to visa holders at the borders.

If her visa is still valid, get a new year insurance and bounce her out and back (by land or air) to get a new year entry stamp

You'd only talk to the immigration office IF you're getting a year extension.
