TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the difficulties faced by a foreign man regarding returning to Thailand to see his wife and daughters after being away since February. The comments provide detailed information on the necessary documents and requirements, including obtaining a Certificate of Entry from the Thai embassy, having a completed marriage visa, securing a quarantine hotel, insurance coverage for COVID-19, and presenting a negative COVID-19 test prior to flying. Additional comments address the need for a Thai bank account for visa processing and the implications of land ownership in Thailand.

I always find it curious that anyone from asia can buy property in Australia but try and do that up there and you have Buckleys

as you likely know, in most instances, foreigners cannot own land in Thailand. Under Thai law only Chanote ( title deed) or Nor Sor, are the official documents that are registered to show land ownership. A "receipt" wont mean much to immigration or in a Thai court. If you've made some private arrangement which allows you to live on that land, then likely best to keep it private.

well, if legally married, you are in one of the categories which, with appropriate documents and other arrangements, can return. but a non-O obtained within Thailand, does not allow employment.

@Sammy ******
, actually a type O visa extension based on marriage does allow you to work and get a work permit. If it is a type O based on retirement, then you are right, but if it is based on marriage/Thai wife, then you can work and get a work permit.

@Kool ******
yes I was referring to the retirement non-o

Only the local embassy deside

What happens if you don't have a Thai bank account when you apply for marriage visa. I'm an American not in the USA
Kool *******
@Michael ********
, that is why you first get a type O visa for 90 days before you enter Thailand. This gives you time to get your Thai bank account once you get here, and get the required money deposited, if you use that method.

Whatever country you are in check there embassy website. There are some little differences but basically same as Kool posted above except you are not restricted to those 12 insurance companies thats for the long term tourist visa.

Would advise joining farang stranded abroad group and find out information local to you.

Where are you? You will need a copy of your marriage license and registration document, and a copy of your wife's ID card. You will also need an insurance policy that covers at least US$100,000 covering covid-19. You will need a quarantine hotel booked and paid for, as you must do 14 days quarantine. You will need a negative covid-19 test results done no longer than 72 hours before you fly, and present it at the boarding gate along with your certificate of entry authorization from the Thai embassy. This is all you need to get a 90 day type O visa based on marriage, and the COE letter from the embassy. After you get here, and want to get a one year extension, there is a list of requirements, but just to get here what I listed is all you need.

I'm in the UK and get a 90 day married visa without showing 400,000 in the bank does that still apply
Andy ********
@Chris ********************
the funds can be in a your Thai bank account or a UK equivalent in a UK bank.

Alternatively you could show an income of 40,000 Baht a month.

Having the capital is more straightforward.
Will ************
@Peter ********
I should have added copy of marriage certificate and letter off the wife just to make certain.
Kool *******
@Will ***********
actually to get the 90 day visa to get here you do not need bt400,000 in the bank. You need that in order to get the one year extension after you get to Thailand.
Will ************
You will need certificate of entry from your Thai embassy, marriage visa, quarantine Hotel booked,be accepted on a repatriation flight (through the embassy), minimum of equivalent

0US dollars specific insurance for Covid,

0bt in Thai bank account. Covid negative test within 72hours of flying. I think that might be all.

to get non O outside country you dont need money in Thai Bank account can be local to where you are. You will need the money in Thai bank account to do the extension
