Hi all, I need to take an urgent trip back to the UK. I have been in Thailand for a year on covid extensions (I think I did 4 of them)

My question is will I have a problem coming back through bangkok airport in a few weeks? I plan to get marriage visa this time but think they may have an issue letting me back in? has anyone heard anything?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about potential issues upon returning to Thailand after taking multiple COVID extensions and plans to apply for a marriage visa. The community advises obtaining a proper Non-O visa in the UK before re-entering Thailand to avoid complications. Additionally, entering via Phuket is recommended as it may be more lenient for travelers with visa concerns. They also emphasize the importance of having required documentation ready, such as a marriage certificate and letters of invitation.

how old are you ? If over 50 would go for non o, you will struggle to get all paper work done get married then get non o in thailand within 60 days if you do exemption and extend that.

Once you get here, and you won't have any problem doing that, get your one year extension on the type O based on Thai wife, because you will not be approved for anymore covid unable to travel extension, as you have shown immigration you can in fact travel.

Already read many times better to enter via Phuket (With tourist visa)

I second this I would come back via Phuket, they are more lenient with arrivals and then you can get a domestic flight from their into Bangkok.

You won't have an issue if you obtain a legit visa in UK before returning. If you plan to apply for a nonO spouse visa ,make sure you have all required paperwork you need from Thailand before leaving. Eg marriage certificate ,letter of invitation from thai wife, etc.

you need these to get the visa prior to travel..

Just so you know, my visa was approved i just 1 day..

Pay attention to what they require, submit all, no problem

i'm kind of pushed for time to do all this, maybe will have certificate by then but was doing to return just on 30 day, then sort out.

. Understood. But you'll be running the gauntlet. Obtaining a spouse visa outside Thailand is a lot easier and much.less financial proof needed. If you come back on 30 day exempt carry your marriage certificate with you and any documents related to applying for a spouse visa/extension. Expect to be questioned with so many covid extensions. They will probably ask you why you haven't got a spouse visa yet if you have a Thai spouse.

I also agree with Brandon. Get a tourist visa don't use exemption if possible.

A number of stories of people having numerous covid extensions and trying to return, being refused in Bangkok. Most of those were from people doing Cambodia bounces, but you could have issues. As Brandon said have cash, accommodation and a ticket out in case you are asked.

Are you planning on getting the Non-O in the UK before you return to Thailand? If that's the case, then you shouldn't have any problems.

If you plan to enter Thailand on tourist or visa exempt and then convert to non-O inside Thailand, you may run into issues and will want to have the 3 proofs with you when you enter.

good advice. I was going to return on visa exempt and get some proof that i'm in process of marriage visa in case they ask.

get a tourist visa, don't use visa exempt. Reports are that the full tourist visa is treated a little gentler. Then make sure you have proof of accommodation upon arrival (even if it's just for one night), proof of a ticket out of Thailand within 30-60 days depending on how you enter, and at least 20,000₿ IN CASH on you.

December 2019 I had a lot of trouble with the tourist visa as immigration accused me of working, even though it was purely a holiday. Best to make sure you have booked a flight out of Thailand before the visa expires.
