TLDR : Answer Summary
When arriving in Thailand with a new passport and intending to renew your visa extension, you should bring both your old and new passports, as Thai Immigration can link your visa history. You will need to have 20,000 Thai Baht in cash or its equivalent, as well as a departure ticket dated before your visa extension expires on December 23. Additionally, be prepared to provide your accommodation details for your initial stay.

Carry both passports. And Thai Immigration will link your old and new passports on their computer history on arrival. Carry 20,000,Thai baht CASH or equivalent...plus address of initial days of your planned stay. And a departure ticket.
Will the departure ticket dated after Dec 23 the expiry date on the extension make and difference as I intend to renew or should I buy a cheap one to Cambodia or somewhere before 23 Dec. Will be staying 5 days in Pattaya before headed to our house in Phetchabun. May either move the visa to the new passport at Pattaya immigration or go to Phetchabun immigration and do it and file TM 30 at the same time
