TLDR : Answer Summary
To renew your Retirement Visa extension in Thailand, specifically from Marriage to Retirement, you typically need to provide: - A bank statement showing 800,000 baht seasoned for at least 2 months. - An updated bank book on the day you apply and a bank note verifying your account. - A Contract of Residence. It's advisable to check with your local immigration office for any additional documents required, such as a medical note or passport photos. Other commenters have noted that you may need copies of your passport, TM6 departure card, address registration, a drawing of your residence location, and a fee of 1,900 Thb. Requirements can vary by location, so always verify with Jomtien immigration.

It seems very hard to stay on topic and above all, one person just comment it is not true but fails big time to tell what is according to him the truth.

This page is called ADVICE, if you know better show how it should be, but be aware stay on topic, other cities, other extensions, other visa or even another country has no added value to a question and only gives reading a headache and nobody understand what we are talking about.

If you have a question, don't be shy and start your own topic, you will get to the point answers.

Thanks for all the contributions and I hope the OP still understand that the best option is to visit the Immigration office to get the hand out with requirements.

Did I read that there is now a requirement for medical insurance when applying for a retirement extension?
Benjamin ******
@Phil ******
Only if a person enters on a Non-OA visa. If a person enters on a Non-O visa, there is no health insurance requirements.

Thank you for posting this.

Be aware when you change the reason for the extension the new extension will start from the application date and not the end of your current stay. To maximize the time go near the end of your current stay but make sure all the paperwork is correct so no mad dash to finish before the current expiration.

Thought a drawing was only needed for a marriage visa not a retirement visa

@Paulus ********
, it's not needed for a retirement extension in Jomtien
Ellie *******
@Paulus ********
depends on your local immigration office. Many require you to draw a map to your address from a major landmark.
Barry ************
Same here. Best to check with immigration office as they can vary but Iā€™m not aware a drawing was required for retirement extension

@Barry ***********
drawing only required marriage extension
Bobby ********
William George Wightman. It is required in Bangkok, but it's really no great hardship. I do mine in front of the IO, and it must take all of 30 seconds. Intersecting streets, name the streets, put an X where your building is, and name if it has one.
Tod *********
@William *****************
in BANGKOK you need it for a retirement extension as well now.
Bobby ********
@Barry ***********
. It is in Bangkok. It's just a sketch. They won't accept a printed Google map. You can do it there in front of the IO
Darren *********
The contact of residence, is there a minimum period? And can you use an Airbnb ?
Peter ****************
Ok
@El***
, a new one for me, althought not relevant. Not nice but good to take in account should I ever need it. Thanks !!!
Peter ****************
Sorry
@El***
, maybe it's valid for a separate thread, but if one wants to live in a hotel, a year extension (e.g. Retirement) is not possible in BKK ?
Ellie *******
@Peter ***************
Nope, unless you can get contract paper for 1 year or so from the hotel. I know cases that a guy who has been living in a hotel (years!) in the heart of Bangkok got rejected his retirement extension because the hotel stay is not a 'permanent' residence without the contract that shows 'long-term'.
Ellie *******
@Darren ********
depends on your local immigration office. For example, Bangkok wouldn't accept hotel stay or similar as the address for your accommodation for your long-term extension.
Bobby ********
Darren Shellam. Bangkok have never asked me for rental contract. All they want is a hand-drawn map of where you live. They already know your address from TM30
Ellie *******
@Bobby *******
that is lucky of you. I know some people who need to show the long-term contract for their retirement extensions. That's in Bangkok.
Bobby ********
@Ellie ******
. Yes I'm Bangkok. Just extended recently. Wanted the sketch map even though the same place as last year, but did not ask for lease.
Ellie *******
@Bobby *******
, maybe you have TM30 or proof of staying based on a long-term contract. Or you are staying in the same place from the previous year. Bangkok doesn't ask often for a lease if you are staying in the same place from last year. I know some other cases who weren't asked for the lease, only the TM30 receipt when they have been in the same place for years.

Still, I guess it depends on many other conditions even in the same Bangkok.
Bobby ********
Ellie Takei. It is possible. I've been in the same place three years and prior to that I'd been on an original OA, "extended" by twelve months doing a border bounce, during which of course no visits to immigration are required. So yes it may be required early in the show
Robert *******
The 8000.000 Thb needs to be in the Thai bank account on your name at least 2 months prior applicalion date until 3 months after and the rest of the year not less than 400.000 thb.

You need copies of your passport, copy tm6 departure card, copy address registration, letter from bank, updated bank book, passport picture, drawing of your address location and fee 1,900 Thb.

Best is to visit the Immigration Office and ask the list with hand outs, I might have missed one.
Jeff ********
@Robert ******
not true as have done this the past seven years
Tod *********
@Jeff *******
dunno what you're talking about the seasoning requirements are exactly what Robert outlined
John ********
@Robert ******
also the bankbook to have a withdrawal on the day for confirmation prior to it being updated I believe.
Jon ********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@John *******
I have never heard of that requirement
Tod *********
@John *******
that is totally up to the individual bank. SOME banks you can just put the bank book in and it will print a balance without any transactions BUT some banks you need to do a transaction to get it to update the book.
