On Thursday I am applying for my 1 year extension of stay based on marriage to a Thai national. Rental agreement is in my wife's name. Anything extra I will need because of this? Heard I might need a letter from my wife. If that seems legit, anyone know what exactly it should be like? Thanks. BTW ChaengWattana

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the documentation needed for applying for a 1-year extension of stay based on marriage to a Thai national, especially regarding the potential issue of a rental agreement in the wife's name. The community suggests that having a letter from the wife may be beneficial, but it is not mandatory. Additional advice includes following the immigration office's specific document requirements, bringing two sets of all necessary documents, and ideally having the wife present during the application process to assist with any questions or missing documents.
Once you turn in the paperwork, pay the 1900baht and get the 30 day under-consideration stamp you're pretty much done. I have never seen someone with that stamp be asked for more documentation or have their yearly extension denied.
They vet the paperwork you turn in 100% right while you're at the officers desk.
Thanks for the responses. I know everything that I need and I know what the process is. I've lived her for 5 years. My question right now is just as to whether or not the condo being rented in her name will be an issue and if I need anything to reconcile that.
Just remember, while they are working on your documents prior to your appearance for the stamp in your passport, you are ‘in process’, and any defects they perceive, unless egregious lies, you will be allowed to be corrected with information or documents they require.
Follow the instructions given to you by your immigration office about what documents to have. Make sure you have two sets of all of them...especially the house register. When you go to immigration to apply have the original documents with you if there are any questions.
ahha i did not know that, i started with mariage 30+ years ago (i not remember if my wife was with me that day !) then i switched to retired 10 years ago
if you are getting an extension of stay based on marriage you HAVE to take your wife with you :/ Or at least in Bangkok you do. If you're getting an extension bases on retirement you don't need to take your thai wife..
Not compulsory but its a great help in case some documents are missing.
All imm. offices have their own rules so as its your first time its better with the wife. (English is not their language, they are supposed to know it but... little, very few know perfectly.)
Map of residence is essential. Letter from your wife is only needed during the visa O application.
Letter of rental agreement is under your wife name but if you can get the actual landlord to draft out a simple letter will be good unless your wife is the owner itself.
Yup that’s what I meant. POA from them is enough. I did it this way few years back while renting out a place before we got out our house here. It’s just that based on my years experience living here, sharing with OP what’s ahead and what’s behind
It is quite difficult to find an "Actual Landlord" of the properties where there is matter of public limited company, specially in Condo or Apartment sectors. The company authorized such persons (Manager, House-master) to issue such kind of letter for the tenant and that's do the job.
