Hi, just really a double check on our plan from the experts.
Husband and I (both British passports) are travelling to Thailand for 65 days. From UK to BKK arrive 9th Dec, will be visa exemption 30 days. Doing a bit of travelling around but expect to be on Koh Lanta from 29th Dec.
Plan to leave on the 8th January to KL via flight from Krabi for 2-3 days. Come back, get another visa exemption for 30 days. We haven't booked the KL flights yet.
Leave via BKK on 9th February.
Any thoughts/other suggestions? Thank you in advance for the advice ๐

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking confirmation on their travel plan to Thailand for 65 days, utilizing the visa exemption for the first 30 days, followed by a trip to Kuala Lumpur, and returning for an additional 30 days. They are advised to ensure they have onward flight tickets, have options to extend their stay without leaving the country, and alternatives for different visa types that may cover their intended duration.
eVisa for up to 90 days can be got from the Thai Embassy London

I find them very quick and efficient

If you only go to KL out of necessity, then know that you can extend the 30 days visa excempt with another 30 days.
Or you could get a 60 day touristvisa by applying online at
thaievisa.go.th
Thats cheaper than a extension at the Immigration.
Itโs a mistake to order 65 days without checking visa options first, since if you go visa excempt + 30 days extension, you need to go out of Thailand and in again to get the last 5 days.
If choosing 60 day touristvisa, you need to extend that for the last 5 days.
Remember to have a onward ticket in every visa period
30 + 30 + 30 days = 3 onward flighttickets including the returnticket.
60 + 30 days = 2 onward flighttickets including the returnticket
we are planning to come from Canada in Jan and would like to stay 90 days. Can we get the 60 day tourist visa and a 30 day extension but book our flight for the 90 days? Then have another ticket showing us leaving the country and coming back in? I don't want to book the ticket for 60 days and change it later because by that time it's more expensive and harder to get a flight back. Thanks!

You just need a onward ticket (one-way) out of Thailand within the 60 day.
Just the cheapest one you can get, or search onward ticket.
is it ok to get a bus ticket? I'm assuming this would be the cheapest option? if so can it be obtained online before arriving? and [sorry to keep asking] what would be the best website ? I too am coming for[hopefully[90 days , I have a 60 tv and return flight booked assuming I will get the extra 30 days..
Henrik *****
The onward ticket has to obtained before departure, since it is at check-in you may have to show it.
The extension of 30 days will normaly be granted without problems.

Why not take the train to Malaysia?

Traveling overland by train, bus, etc to Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia (including en route to Singapore), Myanmar, etc is not accepted as proof of exiting Thailand.

Just get a 90 day visa and then you are done. Not expensive
"If you apply for single-entry tourist visa, you can stay in Thailand up to 60 days only. The 30-day visa exemption scheme is not included in the tourist visa, and the permitted length of stay remains up to 60 days."
Tourist Visa not now. Its 60 day visa and then 30 day extension. Which visa are you referring too please?

Perfect plan - as long as the kL tickets are booked before departure

Did you want to go to KL or are you going specifically for a visa? If you didnโt want to leave Thailand you could apply for a visa to cover that amount of time with one extension before you leave ๐
to decide exact plan this week. Whether to apply for a tourist visa or not, how long does that normally take? Quite liked the idea of checking out KL again as been a number of years since been there.
Iโm not a massive fan of big cities so I would rather go to George Town in Malaysia ๐ Iโm not sure how long the tourist visa takes from your home country i think all embassies differ. Another fun option is to go to Angkor wat in siem reap
yep we liked George town too last time. Angkor Wat already done a few years ago. Thanks for the suggestions. It will also be about cost of flights in and out of Krabi. Main thing is option sensible about taking flight out if visa exemption route.
Just make sure you have all of your plane tickets with you when you travel. As it's likely your airline from UK will want to see your flight to KL before they let you board your flight, since you're traveling without a visa. Same thing for your flight back to Thailand from KL. They may want to see your flight back to UK before they'll let you board.
