I’m travelling to Thailand with my husband and two young children, we are arriving in a few days on the 30 day visa exception from Canada. We would like to extend our stay an additional 19 days. We will be in Phuket for the first part of our stay (18 days) and going to Krabi. What do I need to be aware of to extend for the additional days? When I arrive in Krabi after 18 days will that be enough time to apply for the additional days?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Traveling to Thailand on a 30-day visa exemption allows the possibility of extending your stay by an additional 30 days. To extend your stay for an additional 19 days after arriving, you can apply for the extension at an immigration office, such as in Krabi, and it's advisable to have the TM30 form from your accommodation ready. Make sure to apply within your initial 30 days of entry; the extension will be effective from the day you apply.

When going to Thailand for 31 - 60 ( 90 )days, the 60 days touristvisa is the best option.

It is cheaper than visaexcempt + 30 days extension.

No need of a onward ticket ( 90 days 1 onward ), if returnticket within 60 days.

It is easier to apply from the comfort of your home.

Not wasting holiday time to find, go to and waiting at a immigration office ( 90 you would need that ).

No need to leave Thailand in up to 90 days.

Just be sure to have the TM30 print from your accomodation in Krabi

Plenty of time. The 30 days extention of stay on a visa exemption entry is, if granted, issued the day you apply.
