Hi All! Probably a stupid question but I couldn't find a recent answer using the search function.
If I were to come to Thailand on a 30-day exemption, could I extend this exemption by 30 days at the immigration office in Chiang Mai? Just checking as most people asking seem to be in Bangkok.
Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, you can extend your 30-day visa exemption by an additional 30 days at any immigration office in Thailand, including Chiang Mai. The process is straightforward, usually costing 1,900 THB, and can be done on the same day as long as the immigration office is open. Hiring an agent can help simplify the process if you prefer assistance.
If you want to relax, you can hire an agent to represent you. If you're going to be in CNX, may I recommend the chiang mai visa shop? I mean, he's an agent, who will charge a fee. And you will need to be present as thai immigration always takes photos. But he could tell you everything you need. And he could help you maybe bypass a few steps to be done in one hour. For the peace of mind, it's probably worth a little extra dollars
yes cost is 1,900THB BKK doesn't care when you extend it, you can literally arrive at 8am on a Monday go to Immigration on the same day and get the extension...this is only possible if its not a holiday and the immigration office is open...Chiang Mai might not be so liberal, so have someone call or stop in...
sorry Graham could you expand on that? From what I've read that's a landlord thing? We aren't stating long term just 60 days then onwards to KL :) thank you!
Yes the hotel/landlord has to file a TM30 with Immigration within 24 hours of a foreigner arriving but with some, maybe most, Immigration Offices you will not get an extension if one was not filed or they may just fine you
