TLDR : Answer Summary
If you arrived in Thailand with a 30-day visa exemption and plan to stay longer than the 30 days stamped in your passport, you will need to apply for an extension. To extend your stay, you generally need to submit a form (notably TM7), a copy of your passport ID page, a copy of your entry stamp, and possibly a copy of TM30, along with a photo. Requirements can vary by local immigration office, so it's advisable to check specific requirements at your local office.

You only need to get your permission to stay extended if you plan on staying longer than the 30 days you got stamped in for.
Usually what’s required is; copy of passport ID page. Copy of entry stamp. Copy of TM30 (not required in every immigration office)
Photo (some offices do that for you), and the application form.

Yes. That’s a good idea. What some people do if a TM30 is required and difficult to obtain, is to stay in a hotel for one night just to get the TM30
You shouldn’t have to ask them to help you really. They’re required by law to register a TM30 when you check in. The only help you’d need is a copy of that registration. 😊
as i’m currently staying in a rented room by my partner , so i’m unsure if she can get the owner to sign on the TM 30. Does this mean I should just check first if the immigration office requires it? I’m in Korat (nakhon ratchasima) if that helps
You cannot "renew" your visa. Depending on your nationality, you can apply for a 30-day tourism extension at the local immigration office that serves the address on your TM30 if you entered on visa-exempt (you don't "need to" do it).
This is general information for tourism extension. You have to check with your local office for their specific requirements.
