Hey guys, my first 180 days on DTV are coming to an end, I need to do the "visa run" and have some questions:

1.Does anyone did that by land border and not airplane? Any problems?

2. Is there amount of minimum days I need to stay out of country? Or can I just leave get stamp and come back?

3. Which countries you recommend for smooth process?

Thanks in advance and good luck to people who just apply!🙏

I gonna fly on Sunday from Samui to Singapore. In the morning to Singapore and 4 hours later back to Samui. Gonna be my first border run. I will let you know. But I'm a bit shocked that it should be possible to extend at the immigration aswell... I spent 11k on this trip. Does anyone know if the extension at immigration will cost only 1900thb?

@Klaus *******
all extensions for all visas are 1900 baht. DTV extension requirements are very onerous.

I'm employee in a German company with the clause to work only from HomeOffice whereever I want. With these and bank account Statement I got my visa approved within 24h. So whats the difficulty on extension? Just a new 3 month proof of the money and my working contract again?

I didn't left the country for 5+ month on this visa. Where can I do the online report?
Wannikea *********

@Klaus *******
Only if you haven't left the country since the first report.

I did the first report in person. Can I do the second one online now?

@Klaus *******
there is no 30-day extension on the DTV. After each entry your first 90-day report must be done in person at almost all immigration offices. You'll almost never be able to do an online 90-day report unless you got an extension.

if I get only 30 days as extension, then it's not worth it. The flight ist already booked, so I gonna ask on the next 90 days report. Btw. I heard somewhere thag you can do the report online now? Is this true?

go to immigration and ask for the list of requirements for DTV extension as remote worker. As far as finance goes it seems that the norm is only 30 days seasoning for an extension, but some offices early on had demanded it to be in a Thai bank. Samui and Koh Phangan offices are also known to be a bit rogue, you might want to do it at the main office in Surat Thani.

It’s not that deep to spend 1K usd on a trip abroad for a few days 😂

which is an easier visa to get - DTV or a non O retirement visa? I'm not happy about moving $26k USD which is 800k baht into Thai bank.

SincereGrape4256 Hello! Just to share that if you're not comfortable moving funds into a Thai bank for the retirement visa, DTV visa is more suitable for you among other reasons.

For the DTV visa you'll still have to show the minimum required funds of THB500,000 but you can show it from your foreign bank account and don't have to move the funds.

DTV visa is also for 5 years compared to retirement visa which you will need to renew annually. It's also easier to get the approval and cheaper !

Happy to share that we've supported over 400+ students successfully attain their DTV visa through our cooking programs (under the Soft Power Category which we are eligible for). Feel free to reach out for more information as we're quite familiar with the process.

I have done the Sungai Kolok border twice. Both times they have invited me in to talk to who I suppose was the chief, or at least some type of superior IO. However, the conversations were nice and friendly and I was on my way in just a few minutes. My own take on it was that this particular land border sees mostly Malaysians come and go, and they might not be too familiar with DTV yet (or just want to check a "non-Asian" bit more thoroughly)... As to the "smooth process", it depends more on you than a specific country or checkpoint. Be polite, dress politely, (bonus) try to learn some basic Thai (especially if you have been here longer than 6 or 12 months), and you should not have any problems.

Go on a short mini break to say fly to HCMC, cheap as chips, unless you live in Hicksville areas and then do the cheap Charlie land border crossing 🤷🏾‍♀️

I went to Kuala Lumpur for 3 nights, it was well worth it. Nice little mini vacation. DMK to KUL, was nice to try some different food and enjoy the sights. KL is very cheap to book hotels in too, compared to Bangkok. No issues at all, immigration didnt say a word when I got back. In Malaysia they asked how long I would stay, that's it.

I was in your situation the other month and I took the chance to take a few days abroad. In my case I chose taiwan cuz it was in my wishlist for a long while and it was and amazing choice. Luis mentioned about taiwan, well, I'm a permanent resident there and it's an amazing and luckily underrated country. pros: the currency nt$ got the same value as thai baht so it's very easy to convert prices there. Taiwai has been listed as one of the safest country in the world, even better than japan. Public transportation are really efficient and can take you everywhere at a very fair price. Taiwanese are very friendly and helpful to tourists, no racism, no overtourismCons: the weather till april can go from warm (

I heard Taiwan is such underrated gem. Do you find its closer (culturally) to HK or Japan?
Michael **********
Michael **********
@Jonha ***********
well, it's a mix between Chinese and Japanese culture, obviously more on the Chinese sides. The people's behavior and attitude is more close to Japan tho

Did it at Friendship Bridge. No problems. Same day out and in for DTV. They don't care.
