Hey guys, I have to make my first visa run next weekend. I have a 6 month METV and it's been 60 days since I got here next week. Im looking for some advice on how to do the visa run. Do most people fly somewhere for a couple days then come back or take a bus to a nearby country and come back? I'm thinking I may take a short flight to another country then come back. Appreciate any input on what to do?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the options for a visa run for an individual with a 6-month Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) who has been in Thailand for 60 days. Comments suggest various options including taking a short flight to a nearby country or making a bus trip to a border for a quick stamp out and back. Advice given includes checking the nearest borders based on current location, and considering whether to extend the stay at immigration instead of a visa run. Generally, the process is seen as straightforward, with a few caveats regarding certain borders.

Where are you situated, and do you want the closest border to go too? Otherwise the World's your Oyster.

As I understand from former posts, it is cheaper to to a border run to Mea Sai from Chang Mai with the green bus than a 30 day Extension of Stay at Immigration. But doing border runs could take longer time.

Chiang Mai to the Mae Sai - Tachiliek border is a 4 hours bus ride each way :O so it definitely takes longer than going to the immigration office for a 30 day extension ;)

I am in Chiang Mai.....I think for now I may just extend for 30 days at immigration office and leave the country after another 30

Saying where you are in the country will help people give you accurate advice about the best way to "border bounce" <- go to the border, stamp out of thailand, stamp in&out of another country and stamp back into thailand..

Is there ever a problem? I guess part of me wants to do a six month lease to save money, but have this fear that leaving and coming back is so simple, that I won’t just get it no matter what.

I have never heard of anyone on a 6 month METV have a problem entering thailand anywhere except at the Aranyaprathet - Poi Pet border with Cambodia. They were allowed to bounce out and back in but told NOT to go there anymore for it.

Other than that one instance I don't know any others and I know people here who are on their 4th 6month METV already.

just get to the nearest border.. takes 15 minutes. no need to stay overnight, unless you choose to do so.

It depends on where you stay, You can arrange a ride to a border, stamp out. stamp in/out other country and back into Thailand with a new 60 day Admitted to Stay period. Or you can book a flight to another country and on return get stamped the new 60 day Admitted to Stay period.
