What are the best options for a quick border run from Thailand to avoid issues with the DTV visa?

I’ve got a question for anybody who has experience doing their 180 day border run to get a new passport stamp.

Just planning ahead as I’m at 5 months now, so next month I will need to return back to America or preferably make a quick border run locally.

I know they’re cracking down on the border and visa runs because of people of abusing other types of visas and passports. Has anybody run into any issues being denied entry back into Thailand in doing a border run by plane?

And please chime in on where you flew to where it wasn’t an issue turning right around and coming back or at least spending a few hours before doing so, but still coming back the same day?

Also, I preferred to not go to Cambodia because of the issues there and most of the borders are closed anyway. Just looking for advice on where people did. Their border runs without any problems for the 180 day DTV visa stamp.

Thank you in advance 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post inquiries about performing a 180-day border run for a DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) to reset the visa stamp and seeks advice on the best countries to fly to and potential challenges with re-entry into Thailand. Community members share their experiences, suggesting various destinations like Laos, Malaysia, and Hong Kong, noting that as DTV holders, they faced minimal issues during entry. Many emphasize that restrictions primarily target visa-free or visa on arrival travelers rather than those with DTV visas. The discussion highlights the importance of checking flight options and being mindful of border status, particularly with neighboring countries.

If you have DTV you’re fine. I did a 12 hour emergency business meeting. Flew out 07.55. Was back by midnight. Stamped. 180 days. No questions asked.

I did a 6 hour beer run to Changi airport to meet a mate transiting, direct from CNX and had no issues returning. DTV makes it super easy

All, not "most" but all 7 Thai-Cambodian international border crossings are closed.

Currently, there are also reports of massive immigration issues at the Vietnamese borders due to some system issues and/or an influx of scam center / casino employees fleeing a crackdown on the Cambodian side.

Flying in is the way to go, but coming in overland from Laos or Malaysia works very well too.

In late December I did a same day border bounce at the Thai/Laos border in Chiang Khong. No issues.

Anonymous participant 411 Thank you for your reply. Are you saying that it’s unlikely I’ll have any issues being that it’s a DTV visa?

you’re not doing anything wrong. It’s entirely acceptable, you already have the visa.

I’m just not saying 100% because of course immigration always has their discretion and could say no. But that also applies the same for any visa.

Anonymous participant 411 Thanks again, I really appreciate it and didn’t think there would be any issues with this particular visa. I don’t think it’s doing anything wrong at all.

What I really need is advice on the best place to go to fly across the border to another country that is not Malaysia? Or she already been looking for tickets online, just not sure the quickest place to visit to do the border run?

You have a multiple entry visa and none of the restrictions you're talking about apply to you

I appreciate that. But if you search this topic in the group, it’s 50-50 on what that actually means 🤷‍♂️

There’s endless debates about whether it’s designed for people to live here to work or to not live here and work

I’m just asking for anybody else’s experience cause I’ve already done the border run for 180 days

Thanks for your advice, I greatly appreciate it. That’s kind of what I was thinking, isn’t the DTV visa a multiple entry visa? So there’s no problem flying across the border turning around and flying right back? Have you done this yourself?

First time I took my family to Penang, Malaysia for a week. Beautiful place and 3,000-5,000 baht two way direct flight from Phuket.

Second time I went home(India)

Now third time we are going to Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Both the times no questions asked. Walked out with a smiling IO and 6 months stamp.

Crackdown is mostly on visa free entry or visa on arrival.

Do it by yourself and go to any nearby country. All of them are amazing and worth a visit.

For 99% of the people in this world is not that easy to just decide to go somewhere and spend some time traveling,. We have lives to live, people to take care of, jobs to do, money to make, etc.. It’s not like I’m rich or retired or living that millionaire lifestyle 🙌

I really appreciate your input. I’m not looking to spend a few days in a different country, though. I’m just looking to cross the border get my stamp and come back in.

I’m seeking advice on whether anybody had issues on doing this and if they have done this with their DT visa, where did they go that was easy to fly to turn around and come right back without going on an unnecessarily long flight ?

man go travel a bit of SE Asia. Don’t just go and come back the same day. So many great places to go see in this area. Don’t just stay in your bubble.

Yes my friend, I’ve been doing my own Google searches and trying to find information on my own, but you know the Internet, it’s very confusing and nothing lines up

That’s why I turned here because it’s always created advice in this group. The only thing I’m expecting is for people to chime in if they have done a border run with their DTV and if they had any issues or where they went?
