What could be the reasons for my children's DTV applications being rejected by the Thai Embassy?

Me and my husband both have our DTV's, but the zthai Embassy rejected the applications of our children 6 and 10 years old (DTV - dependant) twice. We meet all the requirements for the DTV.

Does anybody know the reason for rejection? I asked the Embassy but they don't want to answer this question.
Summary so far
The author and their husband have been granted DTVs (Dependent Visa Types) but their children's applications (ages 6 and 10) were rejected by the Thai Embassy without explanation. Community responses suggest potential reasons for the rejections, including insufficient financial proof (500,000 THB required for each child), issues with documentation (birth certificates, proof of relationship, etc.), or not meeting new requirements such as applying from the home country. The author has made attempts to contact the embassy for clarification but has been unsuccessful.

U need 500k in the bank for each of them. I can only see that as the possible issue

The children must meet the criteria of

0 baht each, additionally to your 500k.

Might be the reason for rejection. You must show 500k X 4 = for family of 4, this means 2mill baht

It is clearly writen in most Embassy wensites that they DO NOT give any reasons for rejection, so you should have known that allready before you applied.

It has also been answered numerous times in this group, so it should not come as a surprise.

Instead of leading us through 100 questions, please state in detail every document you uploaded to support their application, including how much was in the bank for the sponsorship letters and bank statement, which Embassy you applied through and was it the original Embassy for the main DTV holder, were the child's birth certificates originals or copies or notarized. Where were the children when they applied, what did you supply for their proof of location? Are their birth certificate names exactly the same as their passport names? How long is the current validity of the passports? Did you supply document PDFs or jpegs or screenshots?

Maybe it has something to do with the compulsory education rules in the Netherlands. Because of the new rules, you have to be registered in the Netherlands, but as long as you are registered there, you are required to go to school. We deregistered last year for this reason, but now we can’t get the DTV because we don’t have a residential address and aren’t registered in the Netherlands 😡

Yes. That could be. But they attend school in Thailand in the 6 months we are leaving. I could provide every document to the embassy and explain everything, but they don't want to cooperate and/or explain any reason for the rejection.

Isn't an Education visa required for that?

You could send email or call to embassy and asked for the reason. I applied mine at Helsinki in Finland they told me the rejection reason of the first application and success at the second attempt.

The recently started requiring criminal checks for DTV. I know this sounds so stupid but did u get ur kids criminal checks?😭

Something else that might be relevant. Being your kids can not overstay, or be fined, they don't need DTVs, as they are school age, so would be on ED visas in order to be in school. They can enter visa exempt.

kids can overstay and get overstay stamps in their passports. Kids under 15 can't be fined for overstay and kids under 18 can be fined but won't be blacklisted

with their kids they all have five years before it becomes an issue, unless they don't go to school, getting ED visas, that most international schools require.

I know the problem maybe. DTV original applicant data is only stored in their applied embassy. No other embassy has any clue, case number, data, or nothing about your DTV. There's no centralized database. After new rules, one can apply DTV only from country of their passport. This is basically screwed now because embassy in your home country has no record while original embassy won't entertain you anymore. Whatever solution you want to look, check along these lines.

Here's a helpful, realistic reply you can post:

---

Sorry to hear this is happening. Frustrating when the embassy won’t give a reason.

A few of the most common reasons children’s DTV-dependent applications get rejected (even when the parents already have their DTVs):

1. **Financial proof** – Some embassies are strict and want to see **500,000 THB per person** (including each child), not just for the parents. Others accept the parents’ funds + a sponsorship letter. It varies a lot by embassy.

2. **Birth certificates** – Need to be properly translated (if not in English), and some embassies require them apostilled / legalised. Also must clearly show both parents’ names.

3. **Documents not matching** – Names, dates of birth, or passport numbers slightly different across documents.

4. **Missing parental consent / custody papers** – Especially if one parent isn’t applying or isn’t present.

5. **Applying before the parents’ DTVs were fully approved** or not attaching clear copies of the parents’ approved DTVs + passports.

6. **Embassy-specific strictness** – Some embassies (certain ones in Europe, Australia, etc.) are known to be tougher on dependents than others.

Since they rejected it twice and won’t explain, the usual advice is:

- Double-check every document against the exact checklist of the embassy you’re applying through (requirements differ).

- Make sure birth certificates are fully legalised if required.

- Consider showing stronger financials (500k per child or a clear sponsorship letter from you + your husband).

- Some people have better luck reapplying at a different, more family-friendly embassy (e.g. some in Southeast Asia have higher approval rates for dependents).

Have you tried asking what specific documents were missing/insufficient? Sometimes they’ll give a vague reply if you push politely once more.

Hope you get it sorted soon!

It’s weird because my daughter was declined and the agent told me don’t worry about it just wait til she goes to school. Now I’m worried about overstay but everyone says it doesn’t matter because she is one. But with all the new rules I worry.

When were the kids applications submitted? On or after the 31st August they need a police clearance certificate if they're 16 or older, if they are under 16 they need to supply a police clearance certificate for the primary DTV holder. Plus from that date applications can only be submitted from their home country.

When did you get your DTV, was it before 1st September 2026? If yes, then you now need a police clearance certificate for the main DTV holder, even though you are adding children. This has been posted in another group, but strange that they don't simply request it.

Yes. Saw something similar about UK. Parents got DTV before ACRO requirement. Now need it for dependents- not the kids but the sponsor ACRO.

For DTV dependants, the embassy generally checks:

*Proof of relationship (birth certificates).

*Valid passports for each child.

*Copies of the parents' approved DTVs.

*Financial evidence (some embassies require proof of 500,000 THB per applicant, ie. 2million baht for a family of 4.)

*A parental sponsorship letter and supporting documents, if required.

*Any additional documentation, translations or legalisation required by that particular embassy, since different embassies can have different requirements.

since the parents already have gotten their visas, even if the embassy requires each child to have 500k, then it's technically 1m thb
David ***********
David ***********
TheBatman1234567890 I suppose thats true... but the embassy might look at the statement and think it is the SAME 500k and deny because of that... but I don't really want to speculate.

If the embassy don't want to answer why they've been denied, best thing is to look over the documentations and try again... (gets expensive quick, but what can you do.. leave the kids at home seems a bit far fetched...)

You're living in the Philippines, the WORST polluted 3rd world country THERE IS.. You say you're American, and you REALLY THINK America is a 1st world country?? 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣🤣🤣 Either you're REALLY SLOW or just down-right WETARDED!! 💯🤷🏻‍♀️ The US IS a 3RD WORLD COUNTRY!! Children living in POVERTY is REAL and very PREVALENT.. Approximately 9.7 MILLION children under age 18 (about 13.4%) are living IN POVERTY in the U.S. Approximately 2.4 MILLION children in the US live in "deep poverty". Children are STARVING with NO ACCESS to food besides what they're given at school.. But then the schools are feeding the kids plastic SLOP and artificial WASTE. You're MENTALLY ILL if you think the US is the SLIGHTEST BIT better than Thailand!! 💯💯 The pollution (index of 67.) and poverty in Thailand does NOT EVEN TOUCH that in the Philippines, where almost EVERYONE lives in poverty, filth, high crime rates, a POLLUTION index of 73.59 (sometimes reaching 100 to 138+), and UNDRINKABLE water.. because it'll make you deathly ILL or ROT ALL of your teeth!! 💯💯🤦🏻‍♀️ FOH!! 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣🤣🤣🤡🤡🤡🤡
