What constitutes a genuine reason for applying for a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) for Thailand?

When applying for multi-entry visa via thaievisa.go.th I see a message: ""If you are applying for Multiple Entries, you need to prove that you have a genuine reason to visit Thailand on a regular basis."

^Is simply traveling in and out of the country for leisure is not genuine enough reason to get METV? If not, can someone please give an example what could be those reasons, and what proof they may require? I've applied for METV before (before Thai E-Visa) and no one asked me for any reasons or proof. So I wonder if this is just a disclaimer, or someone is actually asking for it?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Applicants for Thailand's Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) are now required to demonstrate a 'genuine reason' for frequent visits, unlike past applications where no justification was needed. While leisure travel may not suffice, examples of acceptable reasons include having travel plans that involve leaving and re-entering Thailand within specific timeframes. Providing proof of onward travel to other countries, along with return tickets, can strengthen the application. Recent experiences indicate that clear travel itineraries can help meet the new requirements.

For mine (just arrived yesterday on a 6 month multiple entry, for my "reason for multiple entry" all I said was I want to see all of Thailand so I will spend 2 months in Chiang Mai, fly to signapore for the weekend, then 2 months near Bangkok and 2 months on an island. Seems that was good enough as they didn't ask any more questions and I was apptoved

, turnaround times differ for each Thai embassy/consulate. Check with the consulate where you applied for your visa first.

Also they did specifically email me to ask for my reason and that's what I replied

can I ask what you put for 'accomodation booking in your name for your entire trip'.?

I booked an airbnb for the first month of my trip and sent that and it was accepted but that might have been an oversight as it seems you may need all 60 days of your first entry booked somewhere, personally I had one month booked and a flight out after 60 days so technically had a month unaccounted for, you only need to prove the first 60 day trip to get accepted though

Sadly, what you did before to get an METV doesn't matter in the least ๐Ÿ™ .

The NEW requirements to get one on the eVisa system says you have to SHOW the need for the METV for it to be issued.

So I'd say have onward travel to another country in 60 days, then a ticket back to thailand a few days later and then maybe another ticket out 60 days after that.

You need to show you're going to be leaving returning to thailand (like people do when they use thailand as a base to tour S/E Asia as a tourist ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

If you don't show that, they're gonna just issue you a single entry tourist visa and burn you for the 200 USD that the METV costs (they don't refund the difference)
