Hi, I have a few questions:

1) When you apply for the METV, does the 6 months start from the date the visa is accepted or the date you arrive in Thailand?

2) Regarding - genuine reason to visit multiple times to Thailand? What type of reason should you give? Do you show a flight out of Thailand and back in on the 59 day?

3) Also METV, can you get a 30 day extension on it? Or will that cancel your METV and get you a Single entry visa instead? My country is not on the list of countries of visa exempt, does this mean I can't get a 30 day extension?

4) Also METV, can you apply online for it or only from your home country? It says my country is eligible to apply online.

TLDR : Answer Summary
This post addresses multiple questions regarding the METV (Multiple Entry Tourist Visa) for Thailand. Key points include: 1) The 6-month validity of the METV starts upon issuance, not arrival. 2) Genuine reasons for multiple visits are required, and proof of onward flights may be necessary. 3) Extensions of 30 days are possible for some nationalities but not for those from non-visa exempt countries. 4) Applicants must apply from their home country, with online applications also allowed for eligible countries.

If you are not in your home country... And not planning to Fly into Thailand from your home country, you cannot get the METV.

I'm AND there's NO Thai Embassy or Consulate in SE Asia which will issue you a METV unless you have resident status in the country of application.

...To apply for the METV... You MUST be in your home country to obtain it.

... The METV upon issue is valid for entry into Thailand for 6 months. So be sure to plan your arrival date into Thailand shortly after the METV visa is issued.

... The METV is eligible for the 30 days extension of stay at Thai immigration office for 1900 Thai baht. One time per Entry into Thailand.

... Need to show PROOF of your flight departing Thailand within the FIRST 60 days of ARRIVAL.

With ticket to re-enter Thailand after you depart Thailand. When you return is Up to You.

All passport nationalities are eligible to extend visa by 30 days or those that are visa exempt only?
James ********
@Kurt ****
NOT all are eligible to get the 30 days extension of stay.

Those eligible for Visa Exempt Entry can get the 30 days extension of stay.

Those who enter VOA Visa on Arrival are 🚫 NOT eligible for the 30 days extension of stay.

Those who enter with the Thai Tourist Visa can get the 30 days extension of stay.

It's the passport nation which determines who is eligible to enter Thailand and HOW

Ok I’m from Malta which is not listed in the visa exempt countries. Seems like I won’t be able to get the 30 day extension then
James ********
@Kurt ****
correct. Malta is NOT eligible for the 30 days extension of stay.

You can apply for the VOA on-line or upon arrival into Thailand. With proofs as required, including flight departing Thailand within the 30 days stamp you receive upon arrival.

Your arrival date counts as DAY 1.

My plan was to do 9 months in Thailand so without the 30 day extension, it became more difficult. I’ll just do the METV 60 days, then border run, then another 60 days, border run, then another 60 days, then apply for an ED visa 8 months, potentially an elite visa.

@Kurt ****
whatever works best for you. Be aware that you may not be able to do a Land BORDER BOUNCE at all borders. NOT all do the VOA. And the ability to get an Ed Visa may be impacted with MANY entries into Thailand in a short time. Plan carefully and when you try to do anything about border runs or bounces, be sure to use an experienced border run service company as they will know IF you can be successful in doing it.
