I have METV with a must use by date of July 29 2024. I have a TR-60 good until May 4 2024. I have an extension of stay until June 3 2024. I am flying to Tokyo and returning to Thailand on May 29. Upon entering Thailand on May 29 will I get 2 months tacked on to the June 3 2024 date? If so and that date is around Aug 2 2024 would I need to do a border bounce before July 29 or Aug 2 to extend another two months? Is it also possible to extend the Aug 2 date by thirty days by paying 1900 Baht for a thirty day extension. Thanks for your help!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) expiring on July 29, 2024, and plans to re-enter Thailand on May 29, 2024, after a trip to Tokyo. Upon re-entry, they will receive a fresh 60-day stamp valid until July 28, which can be extended by 30 days. They should perform a border bounce before July 28 to ensure continued stay in Thailand until September if needed. A 30-day extension can also be requested for a fee.

I'll pay the 1900 to not have to read this again !

When you enter Thailand on May 29, you will receive a new 60-days stay permit which will carry you until July 28. You should exit Thailand until this date.

So, since the visa validity expires on July 29, you need to do a border bounce BEFORE July 28. If you bounce on July 28, you will receive a last 60-days stay permit until September 27. You COULD stay outside Thailand for one night, and re-enter on July 29, that will carry you to September 28

Then it's up to the discretion of the Immigration if they will grant you a 30-days extension on top of that

Never heard of anyone get denied a 30 days extension on visa exemption or a tourist visa, even if it’s multiple, but ok if you can confirm this is the case it could be right.

never heard of one, either. One can get almost 9 months out of a multi entry tourist visa by these means

You will get stamped in for 60 days on May 29 which if I calculate correctly takes you to July 27. If you leave on the 27th and return on or before the 29th you will again get stamped in for 60 days which you can extend by 30 days at immigration then you are done

Thx perfect. Really appreciate your response!!

You’ll get 60 days upon each entry until the last day of your visa and all entries can be extended with additional 30 days. In total you can stay almost nine months on a six months METV.

And you don’t get anything tacked on your previous stay. Your previous 60 days TV is cancelled and a zero when you’re stamped out. You re-enter on a fresh 60 days stamp.

So last day of my visa is July 29 so if I do border bounce on July 27 I will get 60 more days with up to 30 day extension if immigration bureau immigration officer approves of extension days? Is this correct? Thx for replying!!

@Rick *****
This is correct and should be no issues to use the METV fully as it’s suppose to. And you’re ALWAYS entitled to do one local extension for each entry anyway. Enjoy your stay.😉

hi Rick. No your 60 day stay of permit starts on re-entry and you may extend this for 30 days @ ฿1900. Then you may do a border bounce.

visa doesn't start. Only stay permits start. When he enters Thailand on May 29, he will receive a new 60-days stay permit which will carry him until July 28. However since the visa validity expires on July 29, he needs to do a border bounce BEFORE July 28. If he bounces on July 27, he will receive a last 60-days stay permit until September 26. Then it's up to the discretion of the Immigration if they will grant him a 30-days extension on this last 60-days stay permit

@Phil *****
Yes, and if he leaves before the visa/extension expires, he’ll get a fresh 60 day stamp when he re-enters anyway.

@Phil *****
The 30 days extension is tackled to his existing stay, but if he crosses the border his current visa is cancelled and he re-enters on a fresh 60 days stamp.
