I have a 60 Day METV entered the country May 27th- Visa expires in November- July 27th , I understand that I am suppose to get a 30 day extension. However, I want to leave on July 25th to go visit KL for about 3 days...Do I still get an extension here in Phuket before I leave or when I fly back into Phuket will immigration re-stamp me with another 60 days.. Sorry if this sounds confusing.... I'm confused ๐Ÿ˜

TLDR : Answer Summary
If you have a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) and plan to leave Thailand for Kuala Lumpur just before the 60-day period ends, you do not need to apply for a 30-day extension before you leave. Upon leaving Thailand on July 25th and then returning, you will receive a new 60-day entry stamp at immigration. Remember that each entry allows you to apply for one 30-day extension, but if you do not need it (since you are traveling), you can skip applying before your trip.

Good point by Kamdee, if you were stamped in on May 27th, in no way can it be to July 27th. If you'd be counting duration-based instead of calendar date-based, like e.g. Vietnam is doing, you'd end up on July 26th. But with Thailand's counting standards it's July 25th. You better check that.

I counted every day on the calendar, with May 27th being the day number one - the day he entered! So July 25 is day number 60. Thai Immigration doesn't count in months, they count in days

yep, that's the most fair. Counting in months would be very weird because then you can get very different numbers of days of stay, depending on when you enter. I know Vietnam used to do this, and when I entered in March, I heard various people who entered just two weeks ahead of me complain that they received 3 days less than I received. A country should imo always prevent such randomness in their visa policy. But they now did that, it's 30 days or 90 days, but neither has anything to do with months. It's also clear in Thailand's case; nobody speaks of months, everyone speaks of

/90 etc days. Only thing is whether or not the arrival and exit date are both counted in full, which the two countries don't have a common approach for.

the arival day is always counted as day number one, and the 30th, 60th or 90th day will expire at midnight

*** if you entered using a METV on May 27th, you were stamped in until July 25th

You need to leave until midnight July 25, or buy a 30 days extension.

However, since you want to make a trip to Kuala Lumpur on July 25th, just go ahead and fly, do NOT buy the extension as this would be useless.

Despite the wrong info someone else posted, You can theoretically buy a 30-days touristic extension for 1900.- THB on EVERY Immigration on top of EVERY 60-days stay permit you get stamped during the visa validity period (until November)

When you return to Thailand from the Kuala Lumpur trip, you will get stamped in for the next 60-days stay permit

ok yes I need to look at my passport again it was definitely in that range.. Actually I'm wrong, I came in on May 29th

you should ALWAYS check the stamp you receive, on the spot! Immigration officers sometimes count wrongly! It happens all the time. They stamped a friend of mine in for 28 days instead of 30 days

You are not 'supposed' to get an extension. You could get one to stay longer in Thailand, if that's what you want. But by your story, you want to go abroad instead. A multiple entry tourist visa allows entries during its entire valid period, for 60 days each. And each can be extended to 90 or just left at 60, depending on need.

You're not "supposed" to get a 30 day extension. You have the OPTION to apply for a 30 day extension. If you're leaving Thailand and don't need an additional 30 days then there is no reason to apply.

Every time you enter Thailand on or before the end date on your visa in November, you'll receive a 60 day tourist entry stamp. Each one of these allows you to apply for a 30-day extension one time per entry.
