I have a single entry (90 day) none o visa based on having a british citizen son at a paid school here (my son was born in Thailand and has both a UK & Thai passport) it runs out in January, the visa was issued from my home town of Hull in the UK from via Thai consulate done online, what are my options in regards to renewing my visa or extending my visa? Is I’m that even possible? Or is it a case of flying back to the uk and getting another every 3 months? I did email the Hull Thai consulate yet unfortunately they could not give me any solid advice although did send me a copy of all the documents sent from my visa application, thanks in advance for any advice

TLDR : Answer Summary
You can extend your NON-O visa based on being a guardian of a Thai citizen (your son). To do this, you need to meet specific financial requirements, such as maintaining 500,000 THB in a Thai bank account for at least one month prior to applying for the extension. For further extensions, this amount may need to be maintained for up to three months. Alternatively, if your son is a Thai citizen, the financial requirement may be reduced to 400,000 THB, but additional restrictions might apply regarding your legal status as a parent.

You can get an extension of stay based on being the guardian of a “farang” kid as long as you can meet the financial requirement of 500k in a Thai bank for 1 month prior to applying. ( 3 months for further extensions). For a Thai national the figure drops to 400k but there are some restrictions on whether you are listed as the parent in the ampur or family court. You’d have to research the latter if you want to go the Thai route.

That extension might give you time to open a Thai account and get the required money in there, if you have it. Opening an account at least isn't difficult, Bangkok Bank KSK are easy enough.

thanks Stuart, given it runs out early January I don’t think the timing would be possible plus I don’t have a Thai account, in the UK obviously I did not need to give any proof of funds etc but I understand you do outside of your home country? So essentially I cannot even get a 30 day extension and must go back to the UK if not Thai bank with funds in? Thanks
