TLDR : Answer Summary
The situation regarding visa duration for Thailand is currently unclear, with speculation about a potential reversion from a 60-day visa exemption to a 30-day exemption. If this change occurs, no exemptions are expected for those who already have a ticket. Many suggest applying for a 60-day tourist visa online to avoid uncertainty, while others note that the details of any changes are still pending. Current discussions emphasize that if one enters Thailand just before any change takes effect, they could still receive the 60 days. Overall, travelers are advised to stay informed but not to worry excessively over potential visa changes.

I heard that the 60 days is not changing. I got told that from someone who works in the airline industry in Bangkok. However I'll wait and see.

Nothing to do with the ticket. Only the day you enter the country counts. make a visa

The question is when are you coming. Maybe next year or within this month?
Alan ********
Worst case scenario you just take a hop over to Cambodia for 5 days and come back
Kevin ******
The visa exemption is still 60 days. There is talk of reverting to the 30 day exemption.
Dave ********
If it does revert to 30 day visa exemption which can be extended at a local immigration office for 1900Thb

"Stay with family"… if you’re married to a Thai and is registered in Thailand, you can apply for a 60 days family extension on any entry.

The Visa EXEMPTION is 60 days, it may or may not revert to 30 days, if you enter the country the day before it changes you will get 60 days, feel free to ask the immigration officer if you can have 60 days because you bought the ticket so long ago, they can probably do with a good laugh at the moment.

I’m not an expert on Thai visa rules but reading comments last three months in this group I thought what you get when you enter Thailand was a tourist Visa Exempt for 60 days not a tourist visa, l might be wrong.

@Abey ********
you are sort of correct when you come to Thailand if you are from one of 93 countries, you don’t get any visa. You get to enter Thailand visa exempt. No such thing as a tourist visa exempt.
Kevin ******
@Abey ********
correct and while there is a 60 day tourist visa, there are many people who write about a 60 day visa on arrival, rather than saying 60 day visa exemptions.

Why would they change it back to 30 days? I thought the Thai government wanted more money to help boost their economy?
Thom **********
@Mark ******
too much corruption. It is a done deal. The effective date has not been announced yet
Christian ********
@Mark ******
probably they not so after money. secure first
Wayne ********
@Mark ******
the government is considering changing it back to 30 days because there has been too much abuse of the 60 day visa exempt scheme. It has already been proposed and just waiting on approval.
Mark *******
@Wayne *******
That's always the case, a great shame for those genuine travellers...thanks for the info.
Aaron *******
Simple. Get an e-visa from Thai Embassy in your home country. E-visa are for 60 days.

That I read this week is now being backtracked due to backlash it received from everyone not just the tourists.

They have more pressing stuff on the go atm
Thaimer ******
Visa was, is and it will still be 60 days.
Wayne *********
Even if it goes to 30 you could apply for 60 days visiting family if your married to a Thai
Ralph *******
The details aren’t out. We don’t even know when or if it will happen.
Lisa ***************************
Just apply for 60 day tourist visa and then you don’t need to stress .. it’s pretty simple just need documents ready and do on line

In Thailand they talk a lot but takes long time for change. Last year they were talking about banning cannibis again and hippies freaked for months saying it will happen.

So chill if it does happen in months you can just apply for the 60 day tourist visa on their website. Easy

@Cory *********
hippies, lol Cory. I know lots of people that smoke cannabis and not one of then is a hippy, yes, they were concerned.
John *********
You can extend online also evisa website
Wayne *********
@John ********
you can not extend on line you do application get an appointment but still need to go to immigration for the extension.

The EVisa site is mostly for actual visa applications
Ju ********
@Wayne ********
yep applying for the evisa extension online still requires you (of course) to go collect the stamp at immigration (CW, not sure it's available for other provinces), but you could save a lot of time doing so. 10min for pickup vs maybe a few hours if you're unlucky.
Stephen *******
Just revert to 30 day visa free with 30 day extension at local immigration 1900 baht sorted. If it happens.
Martin *******
It will take them months to pass it into law so need to worry at all
Stuart *********
It’s speculation as to whether it will change. It may. It may not.

If it does there would be no exemption for people that have already paid for a ticket.
