I went to immigration for the 90-day report after being denied online. The reason was because I went on vacation to Krabi with my thai wife and hadn't filed the TM 30 residency report. But isn't the hotel obligated to do so? If the hotel didn't notify immigration of our stay, how would the police know I went to Krabi?
Answer summary
The post discusses the complexities around TM30 filing and 90-day reports for expats in Thailand. It highlights how a foreigner, recently back from Krabi with their Thai spouse, faced issues filing their 90-day report online due to TM30 discrepancies. The conversation reveals that requirements can vary significantly by immigration office, with some needing updated TM30s for domestic stays in hotels, while others may not. User experiences indicate that while hotels should file for TM30, the onus can sometimes still lie on the foreigner, leading to potential confusion.

This thread is getting more and more convoluted.. Sorry but I'm gonna shut it down

Check with your office to see how they are as far a their TM30 policy and follow it

100% the 90 day online rejection the O/P got was because they stayed at a hotel in thailand that filed a TM30 on them, and then they didn't file a new TM30 once they went back home and when they did their 90 day report the current address in the TM30 system was the hotel and the address they used on the 90 day system was their actual home address

okay, let's get this hashed out.

As far as the 90 day online system, it cross checks passport and address information with the TM30 system.

SOME offices require you file a new TM30 if you stay somewhere else other than your primary residence (where you have your TM30 filed) during inside thailand travel

SOME offices only require you to file a new TM30 if you return from international travel

AND

SOME offices only require you to file the TM30 once and whether you travel domestically (staying at a place that files a Tm30 on you) or return from international travel, as long as you go back to the address where your TM30 was filed, they're okay with it

It's office specific, so what we're not going to do is list how each and every one of the 80+ offices in the country handles TM30 requirements <- that's for you people to suss out with your particular immigration office..

As far as the O/P's predicament it was because they'd stayed at a hotel that filed a TM30 on them and then didn't update/re-file a TM30 when they went back home <- meaning their office requires a TM30 update for domestic travel (if you stay where a TM30 is filed inside thailand)

Just a note in regards filing your 90 day report online which have discovered talking to other people.

The first time you have to make your 90 day report best go to Immigration with the correct details of where you reside on the TM 30 form

The second time you have to apply try using the online using the same details on the previous TM 30 form.

The online lodgement usually goes bonkers when the details don’t match the original 1st one you file.

Only my experience I heard this new app called ( Thim ) Thai Immigration, will in the near future facilitate the lodgement of the 90 days report online and hopefully work better than the system available now.

Good Luck 🤞

I've been doing my 90 day check-ins for the last 2 years on line and then the last 3 times it's been rejected so needed to do a in person check-in.

I asked the immigration officer why it keeps being rejected when I do it on line. His reply was "I don't know but here's your new 90 day slip"

The reason you couldn't file the report online was because the hotel you stayed at in Krabi did file a TM 30 on you and you didn't refile a new TM 30 after you got home to your real address.

The online 90 system cross checks data against the TM 30 system. And it still showed your most recent TM 30 as being from the hotel you stayed at not you home address

I went to immigration alone and filled out the TM 30. Upon delivery, they told me that my Thai wife also had to do it, attaching her ID card. When I complained that a Thai woman had to do it, they told me she had to guarantee she was with me. I have a non-immigrant visa (O) through marriage. I returned home and on Monday we're going together. I have to drive more than 130 km there and back.

if she owns the property where you're living she is the person that files the TM30 on you, many offices won't let people 'self file'

this must be office specific as that’s not my experience. I reside in Pattaya, my TM30 address was registered 3 years ago and is linked to my current extension of stay. I only file a new TM30 when I renew my extension of stay. I travel regularly to Phetchabun and stay in hotels which register me with local immigration. I have never filed a TM30 on my return to Pattaya. Pattaya immigration office are not interested in these temporary stays away from your permanent address. They are only interested in changes to a permanent address linked to my extension of stay. I file my 90 day reports online without any issues using my Pattaya address.

why would you have to file a new TM30 when you renew your extension of stay. Never had to do that at Jomthein for my annual extension. however, even at the same jomthein office, you may get different response from different immg personnel. Eg. One says 1. anytime you re-enter the country you must file a new TM30 (even if same address as previously and same extension /same visa). Other says 2. No need to file TM30 if same address and using same extension/visa (re entry permit)).

yep, I was asked to file a new one when I got my retirement extension in Bangkok even though my original one was filed when I came back into the country and was still good

for my marriage extension of stay Jomtien Immigration require a new updated TM30 as part of your package paperwork. No getting around it, if you don’t have it they ask you to file a new one on the spot. Required for at least my last five marriage extensions. The reason they want a new filing is because you are getting a new stamp. Each new entry stamp needs an updated TM30 filed. Can only relay by own personal experience.

They told me that my Thai wife also has to do TM 30 to confirm that she was with me.

there is no TM30 that your thai wife has to do, only foreigners do TM30's unless they were telling your thai wife to FILE a TM30 for you, It's a "notification of foreigner in residence" form nothing to do with thaiz

If she is the house owner she needs to file the tm30 saying you are staying at her place upon returning. Not at the hotel.

the problem with that is if you return to the hotel alone they may not give you the key as you are not registered as staying there

this works for me about 90% of the time. Occasionally the hotel wants to see my passport as well. When that happens I just know to file a new tm30 when I return home.

just get the Thai wife to do the checking into hotels. That way the TM30

Never changes from your permanent residence. When I travel I just let my wife do the checking in while I wait in car. No

Need to complicate things for your TM30.
