Whats the total number of days you can be in thailand on a tourist visa in a one year period.
Answer summary
There is no strict limit on the number of days you can stay in Thailand on a tourist visa each year, but it is generally accepted that staying for more than 180 days may raise issues with immigration, as you may then be viewed as a resident. The allowed duration typically consists of a 60-day tourist visa with a potential 30-day extension. However, the number of re-entries and extensions accepted varies widely and is ultimately at the discretion of individual immigration officers. Many users report differing experiences, suggesting that it is possible to stay longer with multiple entries and extensions, especially if you plan your exits wisely and maintain a tourist profile.

No real answer to this. Depending on where you're from, 60 day tourist visa + 30 day extension is pretty much 100%. Leaving for a bit and coming back doing the same thing the same year isn't guaranteed, but mostly accepted if you hold a strong passport.
I visit 4 times a year for 3 weeks at a time, this year will be 5 visits. I arrive again on 15th September, been doing it for years never been questioned, pulled up or asked any questions. Real tourists can come and go as many times as they like. I don't do border runs or try and duck the system, always have return ticket back to home country and I don't leave Thailand and come back again within 48 hours.
After 8 entries over 18 months I was questions and told next time I come if I don’t have a visa I won’t get in. I come back for 9th time without a visa but an appointment booked at the Visa office in phuket and after some further questions, proof of funds and a chat with my Thai girlfriend they let me through. There are no set rules it’s all down to your plans and if the offices you dealing with is in a good mood or not
There is no defined rule on number of times you can enter on a tourist visa and there is no per annum reset. Every entry is at the discretion of the immigration officer you stand in front of but you definitely can't live in Thailand on tourist entries. You'll get away with 2 over a 12 to 18 month period then you might start having issues
There may not be any rule directly associated with governing specific short-term visas, but the overriding limit in any year is 180 days. After that you are deemed to be resident and should have an appropriate long-term visa. Plus will fall under Thai tax law.
Todd McGowan Jeeze, funny that... You seem to agree that one becomes tax resident after 180 days... yet somehow the word resident is meaningless to you. What exactly do you think it means. A tourist is limited as to the time they are permitted to stay in the country without applicable visa allowing residence, albeit long-term temporary like the retirement, plus a multitude of others. Play on words if you wish, but residency is what it is in whatever form... and 180 days is the limit which beyond you need such and would not be classed as a tourist Thai taxation laws apply from the same. My wife is a foreigner in Thailand, yet has been resident for more than 10 years. Doesn't make her Thai, doesn't make her a citizen, it just means that she is permitted residency. And yes, she pays taxes. I'd like to see you try to claim that you are just a tourist after 180 days... tell them you are just having fun perhaps...
Michael Felton There is no such limit. After 180 days, you become TAX RESIDENT. You will never be deemed to be resident here lol. If you are a tourist, you don't need a long term visa.
Luc De Clerck That is likely with visa exempt entries but I am unaware of anyone with tourist visas being given just a 7 day extension for their second entry
six entries last year five entries this year so far
getting ready to do the sixth one and I don’t stay a long time three weeks at a time usually sometimes I book a month or more but in between that month, I usually go to either Vietnam, Cambodia or Philippines for 5 to 10 days returning back to Thailand to finish out my time and then go back to the home country
No established rule but if you come in on a 60 day tourist visa and extend then try to do that more than once, you'll increasingly risk scrutiny as not a legit tourist.
With the SETV it’s 60 days for one visa with the potential of a 30 day extension. You could get another visa and repeat the process but it’s not guaranteed.
There’s no actual rule. Immigration officers decide if you are a genuine tourist or are abusing the use of the visa.
