TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a long-term visa extension in Thailand based on marriage, it is typically required to maintain a minimum balance of 400,000 baht in a Thai bank account for at least two months prior to the application. While many immigration offices do not strictly enforce the rule of keeping this amount during the "under consideration" period after applying for the extension, there may be inconsistencies among different offices. Once the extension is approved, the funds no longer need to be maintained in the account.

All offices are different. But I had issues with this. I accidentally used the seasoned money. And replaced it the next day. Immigration refused to accept it.

@Giovannone ******
For an in country Non-O Visa (90 days) 400k in a Thai bank account on the day you apply then again 400k for 2 calendar months before you apply for the 12 month extension

Sorry Tod. Am I missing something .

Shouldn’t that read most offices dont request keeping the ฿400k in your account. And like you reiterated at the end it’s not a rule. So you’d say to the IO could you point that out to me in the rules. And thank him for clearing this up and be on your way. They might ask to see your bank book again. Which you would show them and it would show your activity of your account over the under consideration stamp period. Most offices don’t request that. It’s very different to a retirement financial requirements most importantly the one of being married only 2 months seasoning nothing else. Your wife might only want to give her money for two months.!

MOST offices request you keep the 400K baht in the account during the "under consideration" period from the stamp you get when you apply for the extension. but it is not an official rule.

@Martin *******
check the retirement at your immigration office

We are talking about marriage and it’s two months seasoning is all that’s required for marriage financial requirements. You can do as you please and want after that. No need to keep the ฿400,000 in after you have your under consideration stamp in your passport. Retirement requirements are totally different and more financially restrictive.

@Martin *******
dont I know,I'm luckey 800k is not a problem for me BUT when i get proof from bank this month i will ask them what they will need when i die,im 61 already older than my father and grandfather!
Martin ********
@Ian ********
I’m 68 all the best to you
Tod *********
@Martin *******
yep, left out the DON'T as in most offices don't require you to keep the funds in during the under consideration stamp, sorry thanx for catching it
Tod *********
The rules for the seasoning of funds for an extension based on marriage using banked money method are 400K baht in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months before you apply for the yearly extension

MOST offices don't (thanx
@Martin *******
) request you keep the 400K baht in the account during the "under consideration" period from the stamp you get when you apply for the extension. Some do, but it is not an official rule

Once the year extension is inked into your passport there's no obligation to keep the funds in the account any longer.

Where are you in the process of your visa/extension etc???
John ****
If you have Bangkok bank they now need to see it in there for 4 months prior to the visa application otherwise they lock the 400k for 4 months (I learned the hard way) So if you have BKK bank and need that money after being approved the visa make sure you have it in there 4 months or more before to avoid the lock.
John ****
yeah 🙁 Just something to be aware of. Not fun when they tell you its getting locked for 4 months hah
Tod *********
@John ***
yep, definitely something to keep in mind, 😕
Tod *********
then you're fine to do what ever you want with the funds as long as it's 400k for 2 months before you're going to apply for the next yearly extension you're fine
Caner *******
@Tod ********
wasn't it, 2 months before application+ 1 month(under consideration period)?
Graham ******
@Caner ******
Read Tod's answer above

@Caner ******
yes...to be safe...it's best to keep the funds in the bank account during the normal one month Under Consideration period.
Caner *******
At least in Bangkok, chaengwathana, they asked me to keep the money in the account in the under consideration period and they asked for an updated bank book that shows i still keep the money until the day i my extension is approved.
Tod *********
@Caner ******
they haven't done that for a couple years now, at least not since they went to 21 day under consideration for marriage extensions at Chaengwattana,

when did you get a marriage extension where they asked you to update a bank book and bring it in when you closed out an under consideration stamp?
