Hi all. What are the rules about your banked money (400k) when you apply for extension based on married to a thai person? Does the money have to stay in the account all year from my last extension?

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for an extension based on marriage to a Thai person, you must maintain 400,000 baht in a Thai bank account under your name for 2 months before applying. After submitting your application and paying the fee, there is no formal obligation to keep that amount in the account during the 30-day consideration period. However, some immigration offices may recommend keeping the funds until the extension is approved. Once approved, you can withdraw the funds if you choose.

The rules spell it out pretty clearly, you need to have 400K baht in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months before you apply for the yearly extension based on marriage to a thai.

The way the rules are written there is no obligation to keep any of that 400K in the account after you've applied for the extension, turned in your documentation, paid your 1900baht and gotten the under consideration stamp.

It does get a bit murky though ๐Ÿ˜ฎ While there is no rule about keeping the funds in during the 30 day under consideration period some offices will tell you to keep it in until you get the year extension inked in. But even with that once you have the year extension inked in you can drain the account right down to nothing if you wanted to
