A question for Pattaya/Jomtien Immigration:

Is there a new rule for the โ€šExtension of Stayโ€˜ based on Marriage to a Thai regarding the 400,000 THB I have to show on my bank account? A friend told me that the 400,000 THB have to stay on the account for 4 months after the final stamp of the current extension, after that, the balance should never be under 200,000 and then at least 2 months before the new application itโ€™s 400,000 again. Is this a new rule?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquired about recent changes to the 400,000 THB requirement for extending their stay in Thailand based on marriage to a Thai national. A responder clarified that to qualify for the extension, the 400,000 THB must be maintained in the account for at least 2 months before applying for the extension, and that Jomtien Immigration currently does not require an updated bank book when the extension is under consideration. The conversation highlights variations in processing between different immigration offices in Thailand.

JUST TO REMIND EVERYONE:

1. The OP is using Pattaya immigration office. What goes on in Chiang Mai or Kanchanaburi is NOT connected to what goes on in Pattaya.

2. The OP is getting an extension of stay based on marriage to a Thai national. The requirements are DIFFERENT then an extension of stay based on retirement.

Thanks. This really got me confused. Moved to Sattahip last year from Chiang Mai, never had any Immigration problems during the 6 years there. But I noticed some details are handled differently in Jomtien. They also want copies of the chanote of our house, my wife being the owner, whereas in Chiang Mai the Tabien Barn was sufficient.

Jomtien told me last week to keep mine above 400k while it's under consideration, but said I didn't have to bring an updated bank book next month, so I guess they're not really enforcing it yet..

your friend is confused.

The rule for proof of funds for a yearly extension based on marriage to a thai using banked money method IS

400K baht in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months before you APPLY for your next extension (not 2 months before your current one expires)

AND

Some offices are asking you bring back an updated bank book on the day that the under consideration stamp runs out when you get the year extension inked in (to show you still have the money) BUT as far as I know Jomtien is NOT doing that at all

I believe they got the seasoning requirements mixed up between retirement and marriage extensions using banked money

The retirement extension seasoning rules are 800K baht in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months before you apply, it needs to stay in the account for 3 months after you get the extension granted and then the balance can't go below 400K baht the rest of the year
