I know that the 800k for a retirement visa has to be maintained at 400k for something like nine months before increasing it to 800k two months before applying for the next extension. Is there a similar requirement for a marriage visa I.e. a minimum balance to be maintained for the nine months following an extension based on 400k?

TLDR : Answer Summary
For a marriage visa extension in Thailand, the general requirement is to maintain a minimum balance of 400,000 baht in your Thai bank account for at least two months prior to your application. Unlike the retirement visa, there are no ongoing requirements to keep this balance for a specific period after the extension. However, it's advisable to check with your local immigration office, as some may have different requirements.

As a general rule for a 1-year extension based on being married to a Thai, You need to have 400K baht in your Thai bank account for two months before your application, and no requirements to keep the balance a specific amount for a specific period. But you need to check your local immigration office for their specific requirements. Some offices ask you to keep the balance for a longer period.

BTW, For meeting financial requirements for 1-year extension based on being over 50 years old (Year 1), you need to keep the balance of 800K baht for three months after your extension is granted, then keep a minimum of 400K rest of the year. This is the requirement for you to keep your Year 1 extension valid.

Correct, so 800 for five months and 400 for seven months. Risky to play with this, I would leave 801k in a separate account and forget about it.
