I am applying for an extension based on marriage later this week. I believe I have everything I need. I only want to be clear about the financial aspect - 400,000 baht for two months (60 days) prior. How long must this amount remain in the bank after the extension is granted?

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a marriage visa extension in Thailand, you must have 400,000 baht in your bank account for at least two months prior to your application. Although there is no official rule regarding how long to leave the money in the bank after the extension is granted, many immigration offices advise leaving it there during the 30-day consideration period and updating your bank book when returning to finalize the visa.

More and more immigration offices are telling people to leave the 400K baht in the bank during the "30 day under consideration period" and update your bank book when you go back to get the year extension stamped into your passport.

There is NO official rule about it, (but as a rule people are afraid to argue with an immigration officer even when they are right, so the places get away with making people do it :/)

thanks a lot

the 30 day under consideration stamp is the first month of your next yearly extension. If you look at the stamp you get when you go back it's only good for 11 months :O

sorry to belabour the point, but to be clear?

many thanks, but does one have to apply for the extension based on marriage 30 days before the expiry of the extension for retirement, or does the 30 day under consideration period count as part of a future extension?

@Jona****
the seasoning for the banked money for a yearly extension based on marriage to a thai is TWO months BEFORE you apply for the extension (not 2 months before your current extension expires)

There technically is NO seasoning for the 400K baht banked money for raising half thai children (as in there is none listed in the police order).

You can apply for a new extension right up until the day you current one expires (although I wouldn't wait that long in case you are a document short or something)

if changing from an extension based on retirement to one based on marriage MUST one apply 30 days before the retirement extension expires--ie leaving the 400k in the bank for THREE months prior to the expiry of the retirement extension? Can i wait if applying for an extension based on support of my Thai son until just before the retirement extension expires? Assuming all other docs and requirements are OK. My problem is the timing/ availability of the 400k. I may be OK with the monthly 40k plus but as a plan B???

You can use as soon as you have the visa I think

he does not get or apply for a visa.

The rule only mention 2 months prior the application date, when you apply you get first 1 month under consideration, some offices want you to keep the money in the bank during that month. As soon as you have the remaining 11 months you are free to use the money as you wish

Barry Burbridge which Immigration Office? one year ago I was applying with 400k for the first time in Chaengwattana, when collecting stamp they asked me for bank book, I didn't have (nobody told me I should), so they said to bring next year

@Robert ******
I had kept my money in the bank and updated my bank book this morning prior to receiving my one year extension based on marriage Incase they asked.

They did not.
