What are the return ticket requirements when entering Thailand with a TR visa that I want to extend?

How about if I have been granted a TR visa, which I later on intend to extend with another 30 days on-site.. when I am entering Thailand, do my return ticket date need to be somewhere in between these first 60 days, or could I purchase a ticket right away for my return at the end of my 90 days trip? 🤔 I mean, at that point (standing at the desk @ airport) I’m only granted 60 days, but my intention is to extend it to 90 days.

TLDR : Answer Summary
If you have been granted a TR visa in Thailand and plan to extend your stay for an additional 30 days, it is advisable to purchase a return ticket that aligns with the initial 60 days. Many users suggest obtaining a flexible return ticket or an onward flight ticket to satisfy entry requirements. Despite having a 60-day TR visa, some travelers report successfully using one-way tickets or gaining entry with later return dates. It's generally accepted to book a ticket within the 60-day period, then later adjust your return date after your visa extension, which can be processed at any immigration office in Thailand.

Thank you for all the answers...

In these uncertain times I will purchase flexible flight tickets for a number of reasons. A cheap bastard like myself normally skip this option 😀

I will initially book my return flight within these first 60 days. Then after >30 somewhat days in the country I will extend my visa with additional 30 days and then rebook my return flight to the end of my 90-day trip.

I have been traveling to Thailand twice a year now since 2008, but only on visa exempt entries, so this will be my first time with a TR visa. If I have understood correctly, I can do this 30-day extension at ANY immigration office in the country? Along with the necessary paperwork (my TM6 card, a TM30 receipt), one passport-size photo and fill in the TM7 form.

I have a 60 TR visa which I intend to extend 30 days, my return ticket allows me to change return dates.

You can Google "onward ticket" and rent a fully valid ticket for about $10 to satisfy the requirements.

Some people have managed on a one way ticket, but many more are either denied their CofE (ThailandPass) or their airline denies boarding. On onward flight service will suffice.

Not the cheapest route to go, but I purchased a one way flight to Singapore for $90 that I will never use. It satisfied onward travel.

Why spend $90 instead of $9?

9 dollar flight? Where?

Google search ONWARD TRAVEL TICKET SERVICE

Need an outbound ticket within 60 days. Can be to anywhere. Can buy a throw away or a flexible return ticket.

I recall flexible tickets not being accepted when onward travel proof is required.
