I currently live in the U.S and we’re planning on moving to Thailand this June. I plan on applying for my DTV next month but when you add your spouse to your DTV, does there visa have any restrictions or would it be the same DTV like will they be able to leave and come back freely on their own? and is it better to apply online or at a consulate general office?

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) and adding your spouse as a dependent, their visa will have the same conditions as yours, allowing them to leave and re-enter Thailand independently during the visa validity period. It is important to apply online as the eVisa system mandates that the primary DTV holder must be approved before the dependent's application can be submitted.

It's totally the same Destination Thailand Visa as you (the primary DTV holder) will have, it just says Dependent on it under category.

They can exit/re-enter without you, all they want for the 5 years the visa is valid for and they'll get stamped in for 180 days just like you will.

Keep in mind now that all the thai consulates are using the eVisa online system, as a rule the primary DTV holder has to get their eVisa approved first, then you can apply for the Dependent one (because you have to show proof of why they qualify for that type and your visa is it)
