I have a question regarding the retirement visa. Yes, I know about the 800k in the bank or at least 65k income a month. However, as an American, how do you show/prove that income? Bank statements? I have my military pension and my SS. I am currently in Thailand with a marriage visa but i dont want to have the need to keep 800k in the bank. How is everyone else doing it?

Thanks in advance
Answer summary
An American expat seeking a retirement visa for Thailand needs to demonstrate their income, either through bank statements or other documentation. They can show proof of a military pension and social security income by providing relevant statements from their home bank. For the 90-day Non-O visa, they must either have 800,000 THB in a Thai bank or transfer at least 65,000 THB monthly from abroad for a year before their first extension. It’s advisable to have these funds in a Thai bank account and provide a bank letter confirming the source for renewals.

Just need to transfer 65k each and every month from your account in the US to your account in Thailand, but if you’re even one baht short or one day late, you’re screwed. Would recommend making the monthly transfer early each month to allow for delays. For quite some time, my transfers were going through before I could exit one banking app and open the other but for the past couple months, they’ve taken several days to go through. Both banks say this is normal, but it doesn’t match my experiences.

You will most likely need to provide them with a 12 month statement from your account in Thailand and possibly from your account in the US.

I just gave copies of my bank and investment statements copy of my latest 1040 and my 1099Rs. Redacted all account and social security numbers. Had no problem getting the LTR-P visa

Ensure your "International deposits" show up at your bank with the proper "FTT" code....if you are doing the monthly 65K deposits. Kasikorn and BBK...record these transfers directly. If you are using WISE transfer service.....they are updating their policy with Thailand...which may affect that code in AUG. I print out my military retirement, VA, and SS income and keep those letters handy. You can download online..with each acct. Just in case immigration raises questions. It's not difficult..

You have to have 800k in bank for first visa, then you must deposit 65k or more EACH month for twelve months before the next renewal. Then at that renewal show one year of statements showing the required 12 monthly deposits then you can continue making deposits and withdraw the 800k moving forward

1.) Switch to a Thai Wife Extension of Stay and the financial requirement is only ฿400k Baht

2.) the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok (or U.S. Consulate in Chiang Mai) does NOT provide the Embassy Income Certification Letter as Required by any local Thai Immigration Office for an 1 Year Extension of Stay if not using a Lump sum of Banked Funds in your Thai Bank Account

The first year you transfer 65k thb every month. At extension time you switch from deposited money to monthly transfers. Then you can withdraw all
Michael **********
Michael **********
Mike Kusano I agree as I'm doing that now. I have 800,000 Baht in account to get 1st extension. After depositing the 800,000 Baht I send at least 65,000 Baht per month and make sure I can have proof that it came from an international wire transfer. Then I have proof of deposits for the 2nd extension.

If you're on a marriage visa your financial requirements are a lot more minimal and flexible. The 400K only needs to stay in the bank 2 months before your extension.

If you’re married to a Thai then you only need 400,000.

65K a month is the easiest....and you can spend the money. Retirement is no hassle...no home visit...no marriage documentation etc.

Jerry Litton for an extension based on retirement you would still need 800,000 THB, even if you are married to a Thai wife

Depends on how much you like buying health insurance from a short list of companies picked by a government. NonO requires you show an oversea transfer of money to a Thailand bank account in your name nonterm checking account, NonOA starts with asset verification in your country and health insurance purchase.

First one you need the money in bank in my experience

They don’t care how it got there, just as long as you can show it for the seasoning period, or for 12 consecutive months if using the 65k monthly deposit.

Hardest part is getting the statement if you’re with Bangkok Bank.

Bangkok Bank statement you can get off the app!!
Larry *************
Larry *************
Stephen Howell there’s statement/letter that needs to be provided separate from a 12 month statement from the app. Look at requirements of paperwork needed.

And they ask for more at times like they did with me. I had everything compiled, but they then asked for my deed and driver’s license.

Most immigration offices will not accept a statement you get yourself. They want one printed and stamped by the bank.

@Brandon ***********
The one from the bank app is from the bank. Bangkok Immigration has accepted this for the last two years provided I also show the bank book (I'm not sure if a bank book is as easy to fake as what a stamp is!)
Brandon ************
Brandon ************
@Stephen *******
immigration knows how easy it is to make a fake one. That's why they want it from the bank, not from you.

Why get a fake one when you can get the real one? Unless of course an agent is working for you!

@Stephen *******
I'm not sure what you mean. You can get a fake bank statement in about 30 seconds with AI.

I can only talk of Bangkok Immigration. I know in the old days where you'd get the printed pages sent from head office, they were never stamped. I think Immigration are well aware it's easier to get a fake rubber stamp made than it is to edit documents!

Everyone has different circumstances. I have a military pension and some other income but I also had investment savings. I had to show funds in my uk bank account to get my 90 day visa based on retirement from the Thai embassy in London. Then I moved to Thailand and transferred funds to a Thai bank account which was used for the 12 month extension, again based on retirement. Now I leave the 800k in the bank. It doesn’t do much but I’ll use it for future extensions and it’s still my money so if I ever do decide to move back I’ll just take it with me.
Larry *************

Mick Aynsley here are the requirements from the Chon Buri Immigration office. Three options to show income.

Pay attention to time period for the 65k option. You cannot use it for original or second extension.

Jerry Litton yes, it’s true. They do not provide the statements.

I don’t see where it disallows using the 65k for the second extension. Would you please clarify? My understanding is that the second extension would be what you apply for after the initial 15 months. I just received my first extension, which is valid for 1 year. This is when many expats will start depositing 65k per month so they can use that for the second extension and not worry about the 800k any more.
Larry *************
Larry *************
Octo Adven original and first year extension are 800k in bank. After that, you can go with 65k monthly foreign transfer.

I just put the ฿800k in the bank acct and act like it doesn’t exist until my extension date

Banks are changing parameters all the time on seeding and wire transfers might mess up the verbiage on the wire…that typo has the ability to reset it back to zero

I like simplicity with zero stress in my life so I don’t create layers of chaos to anything

Good luck

If you are applying for the initial 90 day Non-O visa before entering Thailand you can use funds in your home bank to meet the requirements. Show either 3 months of income of 65k baht or 800k baht equivalent.

Once you come to Thailand you'll need to open a bank account and put a minimum of 800k baht in it for the 1st 12 month extension. During that 1st year you can also transfer 65k baht from abroad every month for 12 months and use that method for 2nd and subsequent extensions

@John *********
Thanks. I have to renew my non-O in September and already have a seperate account in my name with 400k in it. Can I just show 65k at least going in there each month and bring in those statements? The goal here is to not need 800k in the bank. If possible
John **********
John **********
@Jerry *******
if you will have a full 12 months of a minimum of 65k baht transferred from overseas each month immediately prior to applying you should be able to use that. Along with the statements showing the funds marked as coming from overseas you'll need a letter from your bank as well, slightly different to the letter for the 800k method

Jerry Litton yes you can if your Immigration Office accepts the 65k monthly international transfer method and you also fully met the 800k > 400k banked for the current year
