What to do if asked for additional documents after applying for a Non-O visa in Thailand?

Update to previous post....

The evisa is a nightmare. They keep asking me for my bank statements proving income over and over....and now on try number 5 they are now saying they want proof of 800 k in particular. They also insist I have the 5 prohibitive diseases health certificate. Ive just gone to the clinic. The one test takes 9 weeks. The tests also cost about 12k baht. Not a train smash but why???? I thought I had done my homework. Clearly not. Goal posts keep shifting. Insane.

My other option is to deposit the 65k into my Bangkok Bank account for 12 months and then apply. Not ideal of course.

Hi. Evisa for non O. What do you do when they now after the fact ask for following up docs...in particular medical certificate in past few months showing no prohibitive diseases. Well I havent had one. Do they mean I must now go for a health check? No mention of a number of things in the online visa system. Now suddenly all these other things. Like ALL the pages of your passport suddenly. Any clarity? I'm in Malaysia

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is facing significant challenges with the Thai e-visa application for a Non-O visa, encountering repeated requests for documentation such as bank statements and proof of income exceeding 800,000 THB. Additionally, they have been asked to provide a health certificate for prohibitive diseases, which takes time and incurs costs. Other frustrations include unexpected requests for passport pages and unclear guidelines about applying in Malaysia, perceived as a difficult location for obtaining a Thai visa.

Where is easier to apply?
John **********
@Dianne *********
the easiest place for you to apply is inside Thailand particularly as I believe your embassy still issues an income certificate
Dianne **********

@John *********
it also has its complications apparently according to the agents
John **********
@Dianne *********
what would an agent know about using an income affidavit? That you need to do yourself. If you can't get one from your embassy your going to need 800k baht in your thai bank account. The only other complication for getting a Non-O inside Thailand is having enough time left on your stamp to do so (assuming you're not using one of the few immigration offices that can't do them)

my 65k income doesnt come from a pension. Apparently that can be an issue sometimes. So although I can get the letter from my embassy proving income is could then hit a snag at immigration
John **********
@Dianne *********
they do sometimes want to verify your income, but its just to check the embassy calculation really. You're going to have to do it anyway to get your first 12 month extension of stay on your Non-O anyway, if you don't have 800k baht of funds it is your only option.

@John *********
so are you saying that even if i got my non O evisa here in Malaysia I still need to get that letter from my embassy in order to get the 1 yr extension?
John **********
@Dianne *********
that's exactly what I am saying. And if for any reason the embassy won't give it to you the ONLY alternative is 800k baht in a Thai bank

thank you. Then I think ill head back to Thailand. Because the evisa application is a joke. They are sending me emails requesting the same things over and over but they refuse to reply to my emails asking why certain things are being asked for many times or at all.im actually speechless.
John **********
@Dianne *********
Malaysia is well known to be difficult

@John *********
but isn't it an evisa section in thailand that is responding to me? Email is evisa...th
John **********
@Dianne *********
no it isn't. It's the Thai consulate in Malaysia that's responding to you.
Dianne **********

@John *********
shucks. How can they be so difficult and unlike other countries.its crazy. I feel like they dont look at the docs I send them. And Thailand wants long stay foreigners spending money in Thailand. So why be so anal about a non O. Makes no sense. And it's also strange because Malaysians are super customer oriented. They are being distinctly obtuse and wanting things that arent essential.
John **********
@Dianne *********
like I said, they have a reputation for being a difficult consulate to deal with. All you can do is keep supplying what they ask for, there have been reports of them asking for the same thing multiple times so just upload it multiple times

@John *********
I'm doing so

What is the health certificate they need? They are not responding via email when i ask them. I think my health cover is in order. But not sure what exactly they want for health certificate purposes. How intricate a health check are they wanting. I'd like to know before i do it and there's something missing
David **********
@Dianne *********
the medical certificate is only for the Non-OA. Non-O doesn't require a medical certificate or insurance. There are definitely differences between the 2. I'm not an "expert" but typically the Non-O is easier.

@David *********
earlier post shows this country asks for the same information for non O and non OA

I'm glad we did ours in Vietnam.

i promise I applied for a non O. I checked. They want all this stuff now

can i go to a gp instead of a hospital ?
Graeme ******
@Dianne *********
yes it's just which ever is more convenient and can deal with it quickly for you. You tend to find all the hospitals will have the ability to sort out any test if required quickly
Dianne **********

@Graeme *****
and nothing else? No blood tests ecg xrays?
Graeme ******
@Dianne *********
the hospital and or GP may want to conduct a blood test/ xray as part of signing it off

@Graeme *****
thank you so much!!!!
Graeme ******
@Dianne *********
you will needto go to local hospital and pay them to give you the required certificate. On the evisa website there is a form that needs to be signed and stamped by GP saying you dont have any of the diseases mentioned

Im doing the 65k income way...not the 800k. Makes it more complicated.

Vietnam for the Non -O retirement. We had no issues at all using the Ho Chi Minh city embassy. 5 business days was all it took.
Dianne **********

@David *********
does each country use its own evisa centre? Because the email address seems to be a general evisa one for Thailand.
David **********
@Dianne *********
Vietnam has 2 Thai embassies - Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Any correspondence from any country's embassy should come directly from that embassy and not Thailand.

With a South African Passport (if that’s your origin), you can enter on a 60 days visa exemption and apply for a Non O inside Thailand. You’ll probably need a visa agency to assist you as you’ll not be able to open a bank account without a long stay visa.

Otherwise If the actual embassy/consulate accept foreigners to apply it normally should be quite straightforward to apply for a Non O as long as you fulfill formal qualification and can prove a bank account with the required funds.

Several people have applied for a Non O e-visa without issues through the consulate in Ho Chi Minh City or the embassy in Phnom Penh as an example.

"you can enter on a 60 days visa exemption and apply for a Non O inside Thailand. You’ll probably need a visa agency to assist you as you’ll not be able to open a bank account without a long stay visa." . . . . . it is NOT POSSIBLE anymore, even with the help of any agent. All agencies discontinued offering "change of visa type" from a touristic entry to a 90-days Non-Imm-O visa. You need a Thai bank account for it, and even agents now cannot circumvene this process. Thai Visa Centre in Bangkok was the last one and they have stopped offering it

I actually have a Bangkok Bank account which is now apparently useless for what you are saying. I've been advised here and by various agents that the easiest is to exit Thailand and apply from outside
Greg ***********
@Dianne *********
if you already have a Thai bank account, then transfer 800,000 THB onto it from abroad, make sure it is coded as a foreign remittance. As soon as the money is in the account, make a border run, enter visa-exempt, then you can apply for the "change of visa type" from the exempt entry to a 90-days Non-Imm-O visa on Immigration for 2000 THB. You won't need an agent. It is however better to use an agent as they can make the process seamless and easy for you

@Greg **********
ok Thank you for the update then -the owners of this site-
@THAI *****************************
- confirmed that they still were able earlier this spring as a part of an complete visa package, but sad if they’re also not able anymore.
Brandon ************
Medical certificate is for non-OA not non-O. Are you are you applied for the correct visa?

But aside from that, Malaysia is known as one of the most difficult places to get a Thai visa in SE Asia. They ask for extra documents, sometimes many times for the same document.

Every page of passport is a common request to make sure you're in Malaysia and never left. Sometimes they can take over a month too.

@Brandon ***********
retirement visa is non O right?
Jan ******************
I don’t know if anything’s changed after they started using e-visa, but previously Malaysia required a health insurance and a medical statement also for a regular Non O visa.
Graham ******
@Dianne *********
Yes but there is also the Non-OA and Non-OX, all non-immigrant retirement (over 50) visas but have different requirements
Tony **********
@Dianne *********
non-o has many sub-types. Over 50 based on retirement is one, marriage is another. It's is a 90 day visa for you to fulfill the financial requirements for a 1yr extension. The non-oa is a 1yr multi entry retirement visa that can get you almost 2yrs. It requires a medical certificate, criminal background check and medical insurance.

It sounds like you applied for the OA not the O.
John **********
@Tony *********
she won't get a Non-OA in Malaysia unless she has official residence rights
Dianne **********

@Tony *********
maybe they made a mistake. They are also asking for health insurance with all kinds of minimums. I have extensive travel insurance. I understood i didn't need international health insurance for the non O
Chris *******
@Dianne *********
did you apply for a longterm 1year visa or a 90 day visa? OA is a 1 year visa. Requiring all those things. The non-o 90 day is not consider akngterm visa and you will extend 1year at a time in country.

@Chris ******
If you see my handouts from the embassy in Malaysia, they in fact required a health certificate and health insurance also for the initial 90 days Non O visa as one of the few embassies worldwide.
Ron ******
@Dianne *********
Health insurance is for OA not O. Someones got their wires crossed.
John *******
@Dianne *********
Yes, it sounds like they think you applied for the Non-OA.
Tony **********
@Dianne *********
I think you applied for oa, not o.
Anna *********
@Dianne *********
but you do for non OA which can also be used for retirement over 50. Maybe you applied for that one
Dianne **********

@Tony *********
I applied for retirement over 50

@Dianne *********
Both the Non-O-A and Non-O are for retirees from 50 years of age. But with different requirements. Do not go for the O-A unless there's a reason for it.
