I think I understand that if I arrive from US in Thailand on a 30 days visa exemption stamp I must show a copy of my flight reservation showing a departure within 30 days of my arrival. My question is - if I get a METV (and have the intention of doing border bounces every 60 days) what date (if any) does my return flight ticket/reservation need to show. Should i get and airline ticket I can change and reserve a departure flight within the first 60 days period of stay? Or can i go ahead and make the departure flight in 6 months when i actually anticipate leaving?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the requirements for obtaining a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) for Thailand, particularly regarding flight reservations. Key points include that while a return flight reservation is typically required for visa applications, travelers may only need to show a flight confirmation without actual purchase. Opinions vary among commenters, with some stating they only needed a confirmation for their METV application and others suggesting a return ticket can show a date up to six months away, as long as the visa remains valid.

- yes - that post above is consulate and not in country immigration. Is an METV available to purchase from immigration if i just arrive on an exemption 30 day stamp ?. .

Nope, you get a 6 month METV from the thai consulate in your country BEFORE you come here. You can't get them from any consulates in S/E Asia unless you hold legal residence in that country. The closest consulates that will sell them are the ones in Australia

I purchased the cheapest flight I could find with a date of the 6 month point and used that for my METV application as I didn’t know what my travel plans would be then.

I see - so 6 months is ok then even though period of initial stay is only 60 days ? I guess validity of the visa at 6 months is guiding rule ?

Don't confuse the requirements to get a visa from a thai consulate with the requirements once you arrive here to stamp in. They are completely different.

Which embassy or consulate are you using? Also where you live determines the proper embassy or consulate? Yes u can be rejected if you mail to the wrong one.

well.. by that visa u can legally stay for 9 months but the flight tickets range could be max 6months. ı dont know if some consulates insists on ticket purchase but mine doesnt require(in Turkey)

I might be confused but what i read under METV document requirements when submitting for this visa in the US is "a copy of flight confirmation/reservation showing going from US to Thailand and leaving from Thailand" I dont yet have the METV visa but was getting ready to submit the visa application and wanted to make sure i had the paperwork right

I have never been asked for one.

when you have a visa, the airlines thinks you will not be rejected at entry, thats why they dont ask for the return ticket, neither do the thai immigration. you can come by one way ticket..
