If I plan on visiting Thailand on a Multiple Entry tourist visa - for say 6 months, do I need a return airplane ticket. I think it maybe too early to get the departure ticket right now. (Want to come Around Dec. 1 from Canada)

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a Multiple-Entry Tourist Visa (METV) to Thailand, requirements regarding return tickets can vary. Some consulates, like the Thai embassy in Toronto, do not require a return ticket if you are a Canadian passport holder, while others may ask for a copy of a round-trip ticket. It's advisable to check directly with the consulate where you will apply. Many travelers have successfully entered Thailand with one-way tickets, provided they have obtained the correct visa. For flight bookings, consider purchasing a round-trip ticket that allows changes to the return date.

Here is what I found on the Thai consulate webpage in Vancouver; “Multiple-Entry (METV):

Passport or travel document with validity not less than 6 months. The passport must be valid for travelling to Thailand.

Visa application form completely filled out for each passport

One recent official passport photograph of the applicant taken within six months of application

An applicant has a permanent resident/a permit of stay in Canada

A copy of a bank statement showing a deposit of the amount equal to no less than 200,000 (Baht) per person or 400,000 (Baht) per family

A copy of round-trip ticket or itinerary for at least the first trip

A copy of hotel reservation for at least the first trip”

Get a round-trip flight that allows to change return flight. Eva usually allows changes on the return for no fee. Buying round trip is cheaper if ur planning on returning

Make sure you check the requirements because some consulates want to see SEVERAL tickets out of thailand during the 6 months the METV is good for (usually in 60 day increments). If it's not listed on the consulates website they don't require it, if it IS listed they do.

Just check the website of the consulate/embassy you're applying to. Thai embassy in Toronto does NOT require return ticket, they only require copy of outbound ticket if you're a Canadian passport holder. If you're not a Canadian then there are different requirements. I've never had a problem flying from Canada to Thailand with a one way ticket as long as I had a proper visa in my passport.

If you have the Multiple Entry Tourist Visa there will be no problem with the airline or with Thai Immigration. On arrival you wil get 60 days of stay, than a border run to get a new 60 days. If you make a border run just before the enter before/valid until date on the visa and you extend that last stay at Immigration you can get almost 270 days of stay out of this visa.

last year Cathay in Vancouver had to do an override on their computer because my return ticket was 120 days hence and my multi entry one year Non-O was 90 days. A new employee might get confused by this. So dont be afraid to ask for a supervisor if they act up
