Hello all, looking for some advice about applying for a non-O spouse visa.

Does anyone know if it is absolutely necessary to have a certain number of blank pages in your passport?

Or can it be done in stages? For example you can start the process with 1-2 blank pages in your passport and then continue the process on a new passport?

Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation revolves around the requirements for applying for a non-O spouse visa in Thailand, specifically focusing on the necessity of having blank pages in a passport. Commenters provide insights that suggest it's crucial to have at least one full blank page for the visa and that the pages must be designated for "VISA" rather than endorsements. It is also advised to renew your passport before starting the visa application process to avoid complications.

Also, make sure the pages in your passport say: "VISA" on them. My wife had to leave the country because her American passport with 3.5 empty pages had printed "Endorsement" on the last two pages, which was not acceptable to immigration. So we had to leave the country same day. Fortunately she had a second passport, and we made it back from Penang in time just before the shut down year ago,.

While the process can indeed be done on two different passports. I'd say get another covid extension and renew your passport THEN start the process.

You're gonna have nothing but problems if you apply for the initial 90 day Non-O on one passport, get it inked in THEN renew your passport and want to get the year extension in the new passport. NOTE; I'm not saying you can't do it I'm saying it's problematic and renewing your passport before you apply to start the whole process is the way to go

is it possible to apply for the 60 day extension based on family and then applying for the year long extension without having a non-o visa in the first place?

I ask because I had a similar situation to Jing last year and 2 pages would have been enough to get both the 60 day and year long extension in the passport.

@Matt ******
nope you can't get a year extension without having a Non-Immigrant type visa to start it off of.

I was thinking that if I apply for the initial 90 day non-O on my current passport, this would give me plenty of time to get my passport renewed.

thanks! I went to renew my passport today but was told that the process now takes 11 weeks! Up from the 4 weeks it was recently. VFS also weren’t sure if I would still be able to use my passport to extend again when my current extension expires.

I need to find out from Thai immigration/British consulate first if it’s still possible to extend again while my passport is in the renewal process.

, when does your current covid extension run out?

, In bangkok you can apply for a new extension when you have 45 days or less left on your current one <- meaning if you have a stamp expiring on the 24th of may you can apply for a new 60 day extension any time from the 9th of April on AND because it's a covid extension on top of a covid extension they add the new 60 days to your current expiration date.

GO get a new 60 day extension in your current passport, then go renew your passport and hope that it comes back within the time you'll have (july 23)

slightly different question now but given that I need 14 days validity on my current visa/extension in order to apply for the non-O. Do you know if I can make the application with immigration if my passport is still in the process of being renewed? (I keep my passport during the renewal process)

@Jing ***
, that's the reason I said go NOW and apply for a new 60 day covid extension on this passport and after you get that inked in then go apply for a new passport

All you can do is hope you get it back before the end of july when the new extension stamp you are going to get from it will run out.

Then you can go get the stamps transferred to the new passport and apply for the Non-O on the new passport and everything will be in the new passport

ok fantastic, thank you!

That's what I'd do anyway.. Good luck, as I said you CAN do it on two different passports BUT it's gonna be a hassle and a half.

As you will be presumably getting this visa outside Thailand, you will need one full page for the visa and a small space for your arrival stamp.

same would apply

thanks! I have exactly 2 blank pages left and the passport renewal process takes longer than the COVID extension lasts from start to finish.

I’m planning to apply for it in-country as I am currently in Thailand on the COVID-extension from a visa exempt.
