Going to Laos in a couple of weeks to the Thai embassy to get an ED visa. I only have 4 pages left in my passport, will this be an issue? One page for visa to go into Laos and one page for ED visa? 🤞

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user seeks advice on obtaining an ED visa at the Thai embassy in Laos while having only four pages left in their passport. Several commenters share experiences regarding passport page requirements for visas, emphasizing that at least three pages are needed: one for the Laos visa, one for the Thai ED visa, and one for entry/exit stamps. Some caution against endorsements written in the passport that may not count as usable pages. The user plans to return to Thailand and apply for a new passport to avoid immigration issues later.

Vinny Rodham what country are you from?

American passport on top of blank pages said "Visa" if not say Visa or like Mindy Nitcher said above endoresements written on the side of them may not be able to use. You need 3 pages as i stated above.

So my steps are:

1. Go to Laos and get ED visa put in current passport with 4 pages left and return to Thailand (should have enough pages for Laos visa and Thai Ed visa)

2. Get back to BKK and apply for new passport at Embassy as soon as I get back (can take up to 8 weeks and I need to extend at immigration after 90 days).

How does it work with extensions after that when I get my new passport without the Ed visa in? Do I take both the new passport and old to immigration?

When you pick up your new passport at the embassy they will give you a document basically asking the Thai immigration officer to transfer your visa stamp from your old passport into your new one. So once you pick up your new passport you have to go back to immigration again, but it's not a big deal. After that you just extend as usual.

Do the pages have "endorsements" written on the side of them? My husband had 4 pages left and was denied his ED visa extension stamp at BKK immigration last month due to not having enough pages left in his passport. The official told him that he couldn't use the "endorsement" pages so my husband ended up overstaying his visa by a few days bc of the time it took to get an emergency passport, and of course this happened on a Friday afternoon, etc.

There are 4 blank pages, don’t see any endorsements on there so don’t think they are any 🤔

I think except it is your last option you should apply for and get it before you go

If you cannot get the passport before then you can

You be ok, it take

1 page for Laos Visa on Arrival

1 page for Thailand Visa

1 page for stamps in and out

When you get back go to your Embassy and apply for a new passport

What type of visa are you currently on?

I got a 7 month ED extension on a non-B after quitting my job. Didn't need to leave the country.

I was finishing my research, my last term, at a public Thai university. The paperwork was simple. But, I was really enrolled in a real program. (Graduation Dec 2)!!!!!

@Sean ************
, how did you get a 7 month ED extension ? What were you studying? All the private schools I know can only get 90 day extensions at a time, and only the real universities can get yearly or term long extensions.

Yes 100% correct , Robert i went thinking i had enough but the way i was stamped in and out of Loa they left large gaps between on my return into Thailand they wasent going to let me return , with my wife and kids there was room but it was tight . After a 1,000 baht and a load of groveling he let us pass
Robert *******
You need at least some free space for the entry stamp.

No rules about needing x amount of blank pages in a passport coming back into Thailand?
