Hi guys, I'm in Thailand now and planning to go to Penang to apply for a 60 day Thai tourist visa. I have 2 blank "visa" pages left in my US passport. Do you know how many blank pages they require for the Thai visa? And for Malaysia, is it just a stamp that can be put anywhere? Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently in Thailand and planning to apply for a 60-day Thai tourist visa in Penang. They have two blank pages in their passport and are inquiring about the required number of blank pages for the visa, as well as passport stamping practices for Malaysia. Responses indicate that a full page is needed for the Thai visa sticker, and Malaysian stamps can be placed in available spaces in the passport. Additionally, a few comments touch on the necessity of having a ticket booked out of Thailand, the process of applying for a new passport, and obtaining assistance from local guesthouses in Penang.

Of the website from Us Embassy Thailand Bangkok: We will notify you by email when the new passport arrives, usually in about two weeks. If you will come collect the new passport in person, then you may retain and continue using the old passport in the interim. If you would like us to mail the new passport to you, then you must leave the old passport behind for cancelation and prepay the 100 THB postage for a Thai Post “Courier Pass Back Service” envelope at the Thai Post Office located on site.

I did at the American embassy in bkk. They will mail but felt more comfortable picking it up.

Thanks! Where did you get yours? I understand I need to apply in person in BKK or Chiang Mai. But do they mail to an address after the application by any chance?

Hey Asli, you should be fine with just two pages, the Thai visa sticker needs a full page, the stamps will be put there where there is space. Malaysian border officials are actually very nice and will put their stamps on an empty space anywhere in your passport, just ask.

As for visa, you can take your visa application form to any of the guesthouses in Chulia Street and they will do it for you. Of course not for free but still cheaper than to drive twice to the embassy.

Try

i look forward to discovering Penang! Any recommendations?

Of course you can - but why would one want to spend half the day bringing the PP to the embassy, baking away in a bus or taxi, then do the same the next day again?

At the same time, you could sit on top of Penang Hill (where it's nice and COOL) with a bottle of wine and enjoy the view?

Or go to the beach? Or, or, or .....

There must be a 1000 things better to do in Penang than melting away like ice cream.

Penang Consulate will ask you a hotel booking (at least 14 days) or house rental contract AND a return ticket. Visa fee is 150 ringgit, about 1,200 baht.

Tourist Visa is a sticker that takes a whole page of passport.

yeah...no. I used Jim in March, paperwork is now compulsory. Oh, and the charge (including the visa) was 180 ringit for memory.
Marco *********
Hmmm.. I think Jim will not be happy that someone publically say that...

Just go and find jims place and give him 1000 bht no need any document ticket or booking

And apply directly for a new passport after entering Thailand. Extension of Stay takes another page which it seems you not have anymore.

The Dutch Embassy send passport to my home address, so only have to be there 1 day.

Thank you! And how about the 30 day extension in Thailand, which I will need later? Is it just a stamp too?
Navin *******
Yes right

You should be fine, 1 page for the visa and 1 for the entry/exit stamps.
