Hi again. My wife and I are now considering 90 day Non O retirement visas instead of the 1year O-A. Couple questions about the 90 day Non O. Are the health insurance policy requirements the same (100K USD)? Is proof of insurance required when applying for an extension? How many times can a 90 day Non O be extended? Thanks again - appreciate the help.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The 90-day Non-O retirement visa in Thailand does have specific requirements regarding health insurance and extensions. The health insurance requirement of $100,000 is for entry into Thailand and may not relate to the visa application itself. When extending the visa, proof of insurance is usually not required. The 90-day Non-O visa can be extended to a one-year extension if the applicant can demonstrate a bank balance of 800,000 baht in a Thai bank account prior to applying.

The way it will work if you both come in on Non-O visas (one based on retirement and one based on marriage to a retiree) IS;

You'll both get stamped in for 90 days.

When that time is running down you go to the immigration office and the person who got the Non-O based on retirement shows 800K baht in a thai bank account for 2 months before they apply for the year extension. The other person (trailing spouse) gets an extension matching the retirement extension.

I believe you are confusing the health insurance requirements to BUY a visa with the insurance requirements to request ENTRY into the country.

They are two different things. the 100K USD covid policy is an entry requirement for ANYONE requesting permission to entering thailand.

Look on the website of the thai consulate where you're going to buy the single entry 90 day Non-O visa based on being over 50 (retirement) and see what the insurance requirements are to buy the visa.

It would appear that in order to get a 90 day single entry Non-O visa based on retirement in the US now you need to have the same 40K/400K baht out/in patient insurance that the O-A visa requires

The only difference is the O-A visa gets you stamped in for a year, so you need that insurance to be valid that long where as the O visa only gets you stamped in for 90 days so you'd only need that insurance for 90 days.

AND

it goes without saying that you'd need the 100K USD covid specific policy too (as that is an entry requirement)
